Wow! Do I really get to start this thread?
First of all, I love Astro-Pol, Terry, great job!

A thought about the election:
I see the wisdom of using Inauguration Day as the election predictor.
However, I recently rechecked the chart for Election Day, just to get a sense of the tenor of the day.
At first I used 8 pm Hawaii time as the closing of the polls. This put 6 Pisces at the MC. Since that is the degree of McCain's revised ascendant(given his new accurate birth time), I thought "O-o-o-o-o, he's going to "look" like the winner". And with Uranus in the 10th house I thought that fit, a "shocking" or "unexpected" result.
HOWEVER, I RE-checked the time for the closing of the polls in Hawaii, and they close at 6 pm, not 8!!!
SO, back to the chart, the new time puts 4 degrees Aquarius on the MC.
But now, with the new, accurate birth time, we know that McCain AND Palin both have moon at 2 Aq. Pretty darn close. And, using whole signs, that puts Ur in the 11th, which could still mean "shocking" behavior by "groups"???
So, again, I'm wondering if the McPain ticket could 'appear' or 'be held up' as the winners.
(Either that, or McCain and Palin's MOTHER'S(i.e., moons) could appear to be the winner? Hah!)
Of course, this is not news. As you have pointed out, the Ur-Sat opposition with Venus T-square indicates some drama about the result and questions about vote-tampering, etc. However, I wondered what your thoughts are.
Am I way off-base?
Happy voting everyone!

More Wiggle Room
The August 2008 Forecast

A few days ago, I attended a lecture given by Steven Koonin, Chief Group Scientist of British Petroleum, sponsored by the Scripps Institute of Oceanography. He was speaking on “Energy Trends and Technologies”. Quite an articulate speaker, he had an impressive array of statistics that made the energy future of the planet look both better and worse than it appears now. Although his statistics might be challenged (I haven’t fact-checked him), several undeniable factors stood out: First, the problem with availability of energy and the fuels that bring it from existing fossil supplies isn’t below the ground — it’s above-ground, in the form of delivery and cost issues (below-ground problems are not far off, though). (In other words, the market is being manipulated in many ways.) Second, while there are reserves to last for many years into the future (enough time to switch to alternate sources), the planet can’t afford for us to continue with, as he put it, “business as usual”. We need to reduce our current usage by at least half worldwide, and at present the rate is going up 2-3% per year (worldwide). Third, it is unlikely that governments and politicians have the intestinal fortitude to do what it takes to create the climate for the necessary changes, so the people must spearhead the effort.

This had the effect of reducing my energy angst. This is not because the situation is not serious, because it is; rather, it is because somebody could put boundaries on the problem. It’s not a bottomless, unsolvable, dire, and immediate problem with no solution, as it may seem by listening to the media or watching gas prices go up with no ceiling in sight.
My point is that “knowns” are always easier to deal with than unknowns.

For the rest of the forecast, go to my home page and click on the "Forecast" button.
Cheers!

The United Astrology Conference in May was an incredible experience. In a way, I'm just now recovering, but much of that is due to the fact that I spent months preparing for it. If you saw me there, you know I had a booth and many new products available for the first time.

I was able to connect with some fantastic astrologers I hadn't known before, and I learned a few tidbits of information that are going to be quite useful.

First, is a better sense of Barack Obama's birth time. By now, you probably know that he was born at 7:24 PM (8/4/61, Honolulu).

We also got a new (perhaps erroneous) idea about the time for the signing of the US Declaration of Independence. On the back of the $100 bill, there is an engraving of Independence Hall in Philadelphia, where the document was signed. Well, did you know that there is a time depicted on the tower? It seems at least possible that the time shown was that when the founders felt that their project was complete and a nation was born. It is set for 2:23 PM, which gives the chart a Scorpio rising. I don't have the automatic sense that this is correct. I have to test it before I'm convinced. I still like the late morning time that is recorded in periodical documents of the time. Still, it's something to consider.

The offerings of the conference were far to vast to really even be taken in, but I have to say that the amount of new material was underwhelming. I hope that in future conferences they'll focus more on innovations and new research instead of the trying to teach the same tired old concepts again.

If you went, what did you learn or experience that will stay in your memory?

I feel like I've been wandering the wilderness for the past two months, but a regular rhythm of life is re-establishing itself. However, it's different than before.

I have been pre-occupied with my blogs. But what, you say, is different there?! Not much. I've just now gotten them functioning properly. My ISP "upgraded" their platform in February, and to my dismay, my blog listings were all backwards! Well, my time constraints and their poor customer service conspired to keep me from addressing the problem until this week -- and they're all finally fixed!

I'm going to be changing the focus of my forums and blogs. I will continue, of course, to write the monthly forecast (coming out this weekend). However, the rest of what I contribute will be educational more than forecast-oriented. I'll answer your questions and post new articles and passages that you can use to learn more about the subjects on this website.

I'm going to use the blogs to do personal updates that will have more of the "forecast-y" stuff in them, but there will also be more whimsical entries. I won't promise to stick to a particular schedule, but I will post more often to everything again.

So come back and visit the forums and blogs frequently. If you look at my website (www.terrylamb.net), you'll already find a new look. I'm still working on improving the navigation process - due shortly. I have also scheduled a series of new events, and I will be adding more, so check out "What's New" on my website, as well as the forum calendar.

Many of the events will be recorded both on CD and DVD, so even if you're not in town, you can attend. And watch for free on-line presentations, as well as courses in the near future. Details of this are also on the "What's New" page.

I HAVE TO ADMIT, I’ve been feeling the squeeze. Saturn is returning to forward (direct) motion in early Virgo (where it contacts my chart), and people have been laying down the law. It seems like with Saturn we’re held to a higher standard. We get the bad news first, and then we get to see if we’ve done enough to prevent repercussions. Are our previous actions to prevent difficulty enough to actually do so?

Saturn’s Story
Here’s our Saturn story for this cycle. In early September, we realized that we had to look at something a little differently. Relying on old ways of doing things wasn’t working. We had to find some new ways to manage this area of our life. Wisely, we made plans and put them into motion. Around November 30 we got a chance to see how well these plans might work for us, and by December 19, we had a well-defined set of tasks to complete by a particular deadline. This deadline is imminent, around May 2, as Saturn moves into the closing phase of its cycle.

Saturn Rewards Us If We Do the Work.
Saturn rewards hard work, but it has to be meaningfully applied — the right work. Now we get to see if our work has been effective. If the gifts we have created for the world will be well-received, or if we need to make further adjustments.

The reward period is upon us, although how much is determined by where Saturn is in your birth chart. If you are in a reward period with respect to Saturn’s 30-year cycle through your chart, you may gain very big rewards indeed. If you are not, the rewards will be palpable, encouraging, but not the full wagon load you can expect when you reach the right stage.

Mars-Jupiter Got Me! Astro-Weather 4/24/08

I was right about Mars-Jupiter - it was so full of activity for me, I was OBE! Here’s an update for this week and next.

It’s Mars-Jupiter Time! (With No Small Dose of Venus)
The big day was yesterday (Wednesday, the 23rd), but we’re still in the shadow of the Great Ones. What’s noteworthy about this is that all three planets are in debility according to the ancient system. This means that, although individuals can exceed the mediocre at any time by applying awareness, most people will not do well with these planets. With Venus in Aries, they will act selfishly; with Mars in Cancer, they will act petulantly; with Jupiter in Capricorn, they will act with coldness and ambition. This does not mean that you or I will do so; however the news may show how conscious our leaders are: If they do well, it shows their good character; if not — well, you know the rest.

This energy will last through the weekend, while the Moon connects with these bodies. This is not all difficult. In fact, there’s a breath of fresh air from Mercury, which is making harmonious connections with Jupiter and Mars, smoothing the way THROUGH COMMUNICATION. That’s right, folks! Talking is going to work this time. Still, with Mercury in Taurus — not its favorite sign — others may be slower to respond than we would like. I’m noticing this as I prepare my first book for printing and work to get it in hand before the big United Astrology Conference (UAC) in Denver on May 15-21. It feels slower than molasses in January, but I know intellectually that the printer is moving at an amazing pace.

What’s Next?
The next item on the list is a real joy. Venus moves into Taurus on April 30 (Wednesday). This is one of its two “home” signs. She is comfortable there and will produce great outcomes for us, with the trines and sextiles she’ll bring our way. Sure, there’ll be challenging contacts with Chiron and Neptune, but a little delusion is easy to cope with if we know it’s likely to be there.

The BIG — I Mean REALLY Big — Event
Our day has come — or it will have on May 2!! This is when Saturn returns to forward motion. What have we accomplished over the past 5 months? Are you on track for the goals you set back in September? This is the time to pose these questions. After all your efforts of this period, you should be able to coast a little bit as you move into a new phase of activity, when you’ll be following through on your past productivity. It’s not the time for new efforts, but a time to complete those already in motion.

I can attest to this in terms of my activities. I’ve been preparing an extensive new line of products (including instructional DVDs) in time for the above-mentioned UAC conference, where I’ll have a trade show booth. This includes my new book, Astrology’s Magical Blends: Combinations for Health and Happiness from Aries to Pisces. I have been unbelievably busy — and pressured with unexpected events like a failing cell phone and a parental car accident (everyone’s okay). This is what has kept me away from the keyboard and tapping away for your information and enjoyment.

If you are planning to attend UAC or going to be in Denver, stop by the trade show and say hi. I’m also going to be available for astrological healing and consulting, as well as energy medicine and I Ching healing (not to mention selling all my new wares). If you want to book an appointment, let me know and we’ll work out a time.

Whew!

Whew!

Cooling Off Period Coming - Astro-Weather 4/13/08

It’s going to be cooling off here pretty soon, and I’m not just saying that because the weather has been alarmingly hot in southern California today! Up to 103 degrees! This may be fine for the desert, but it is even not usually that hot there at this time of year. I think it’s the shape of things to come, but I hope only now and then for a while. We need a chance to see if our leaders can start heading us in the right direction.

We’ve had a plateful around here, just in terms of activity. It feels as if the emergency brake that had been holding everything back has suddenly been cut loose. This is partly the long shadow of Pluto in its new position, getting triggered by so many planets in a new and unfamiliar position. But with so many indicators that seem like mayday signals, there’s more to it.

Time to Clear the Air: Mars Opposes Jupiter
That more to it is Mars approaching its opposition point to Jupiter. Mars, the faster moving body, has already made two contacts with Jupiter previously (mid-September and late December). Now any situations in our life that were active then are again being activated, and for the last time, unless we do something to keep them alive. In some situations, we’ll be glad to see them go, but in others perhaps we’d like to continue something that we associate with pleasure, however unrealistic that may be. I’m thinking about relationships, given the planets that are involved.

So if you have any relationships where there is something that needs to be cleared out, you can bet that there’ll be pressure to do so in the next two weeks (more next week). This does not mean that the relationship can’t make it through, but it does mean that it will have to rejuvenate itself to last. Robust relationships where trust has been built do so without any difficulty, but a tenuous or young relationship may suffer from the fact that the lovers involved have not yet worked out a way of resolving conflict.

Trines Bring Cooler Temperatures and Tempers
The good news is that there will still be a release of tension, now that Mercury has passed Jupiter. As Sun and Mercury are now past all the other planets, there’s a little wiggle room. We’ll be breathing easier still by Thursday, when Mercury enters Taurus and briefly makes a grand trine with Saturn and Pluto.

If you want to find a time to create some harmony in your life, do so on late Thursday into Friday. The pending Mars-Jupiter contact requires accommodation, but the trines are a great opportunity to create something of lasting value or just have some fun.

Tight Schedule
I’m aware of the challenges of this time myself, as structures shift form and focus around me. At the same time, I am in the final stages of finishing my latest book, so it will go to the printer this week. Watch for the release of “Astrology’s Magical Blends”, coming in less than a month!

How Are You Expanding? - Astro-Weather 4/6/08

I took a longer-than-usual hike this morning. The weather was perfect — overcast, cool, and breezy. Great for strenuous exercise and fantastic lighting for photos. The floral display on the mountainsides just keeps getting better and better. I wanted to get two new flowers — pincushion and scarlet pimpernel. Cowles Mountain is so resplendent with blooms that the trail is nearly overgrown in places. I went over the top and down the other side of the mountain, where the rainfall is greater. I expected to see a wider variety of flowers, but they are not out yet. Instead, I found the shrubs to be incredibly thick and overgrown, as different as night and day from the other, drier side.

A new lunar cycle . . . Venus newly in Aries . . . more newness awaits in the week ahead. The current-year Jupiter cycle began on December 22, and we’ve been working as if in a chrysalis toward an indistinct goal. However, the manifestation of that goal becomes better defined this week as the Sun makes its opening square to this planet of expansion.

I’ve been feverishly working on getting my latest book, Astrology’s Magical Blends, ready for publication. It’s taken me a long time to decide how I wanted to get it published, but now that I’ve decided, I am determined to submit it this week to the printer. I’ve been side-tracked by a million little details and had it on my list since about December 22. However, now I’m able to be more focused on it and I may be able to complete it as this Jupiter contact becomes exact on Thursday.

The key word for the week is “busy”. Jupiter expands on everything it touches. When it is the featured planet du jour, we will feel at least some pressure to perform our tasks with greater speed, to accomplish more.

This is also true as the Moon grows from its sliver phase to the half-moon we’ll see by the end of the week, we can expect a few hair-raising adventures. Or at least, some unexpected dynamics to be revealed in existing situations. This will add to the Jupiterian affect.

Lots of Sextiles Bring Open Doorways.
We get plenty of Chiron-Neptune (our neighborhood healers) this week as well, since the Sun and Mercury both make sextiles (the opportunity aspect) to these two slow-moving bodies. This gives us a chance to touch in with the yearly cycles that started on February 4–8. If you can remember what you were doing then, you may be able to figure out what this cycle’s theme will be in your life. Everyone’s expression will be unique, but there will be a thread of health and healing in it. Here are the dates of this week’s contacts: Sun sextiles Chiron - April 9 (Wednesday), Mercury sextiles Chiron - April 12 (Saturday), Sun sextiles Neptune - April 13 (Sunday).

Since this takes place when the cycles are still opening, this is a blossoming part of the process. Early February is when I shifted my efforts to improve my health and resolved to use methods I had shied away from previously. This included the liver flush and detox process I am currently engaged in. With the aspects of the coming week, I expect that I’ll see some mild to moderate improvement if I’ve been doing things right.

More on Mobile Phones
If you’ve been reading my weekly astro-weather, you’ve been reading about my process with a dying cell phone and my dilemma about how to handle dealing with it. In our last episode, I decided to get it repaired. However, I had other concerns that surfaced gradually.

I realized that I want to switch from CDMA (US only) to GSM (worldwide) so that I can use my phone in other countries. This meant that I had to choose a different carrier, either AT&T or T-Mobile. So, I did an abrupt turn (very Uranian) and signed up with T-Mobile yesterday. This also allowed me to sign my son, who is going to UC Berkeley in the fall, onto the same plan.

I also got to get a new Nokia phone, which does everything I want it to. It sounds like win-win-win!

Last week was full of excitement and unexpected events for me - how about you? There was a dark undertone to it, however, that I didn’t anticipate. It’s because Pluto was still active in the midst of all the other planetary energies popping out all over.

Pluto Means Transformation
Pluto was activated at the time of the Full Moon on March 21 — and boy, howdy! However, it has remained active as it slows down to its station, which occurs on April 2. Pluto begins its retrograde period on the 2nd, and before it can start going backward it has to stand still. That’s what it’s doing on that day. It will bring up for us events that occurred on or around December 20 and March 21. If you can think of what was happening for you around those dates and see a theme, you’ll know what you’ll be working on for the rest of the year involving transformative processes.

My Pluto Cycle
We all need a little transformation — who among us finds nothing that can be improved in their life? I know for myself that I have the opportunity to transform many things right now, as Pluto sextiles my Ascendant. I’m transforming my physical health (1st house) and my entire way of putting myself into the world (Ascendant) in business. I am to be freed from the daily rhythm of taking a student to and from school, which means my time is much less structured. I can travel, have the option of greater chunks of time uninterrupted, and can ignore what day of the week it is with impunity.

One of My Choices: A Better Source for Food
It also feels like the time to make some long-term plans as we experience Pluto in a new sign and all the shifts in consciousness that go with it. I am investigating ways to stop supporting the corporate food supply chain. This means shopping where the merchants buy locally and directly from producers, or buying direct from local growers and producers myself. I’m looking into joining a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) or forming my own direct buying group so we can buy some staple items in bulk. I’ve already joined a local food co-op (OB People’s Food) and feel very good about buying there. I am anticipating growing my own sprouts. (Now I just need to find a place to buy Mason jars.)

This feels transformative to me. Eating organic food, changing my diet to eat more healthful products are sure to make a difference in my health and well-being. Plus, I feel good every time I avoid the world of lifeless corporate food.

This week, we can take another critical step toward transforming our lives in whatever way we choose. Of course, the universe may have a few choices for us as well. When Mercury leaves Pisces (entering Aries), our head feels clearer but we also get a big dose of Pluto as the two meet up on Wednesday and Thursday — the same time as Pluto’s standstill.

The Anti-Corporate Urge
Pluto is Capricorn is anti-corporate, and I can feel it very well. It’s not just a petulant resistance to their power. It’s that I have less control over the outcomes in my life when I rely on corporations to provide the services I need. They don’t care about me as an individual — they don’t even care about individuals! They can’t and still fulfill their mission, as much as they may say so.

I feel more relaxed and more able to survive without relying on a corporation to provide food to me. I’ve already found that the mainstream food sources are “drying up”. They carry fewer and fewer staples. I’d long ago stopped shopping at corporate grocers like Vons and Albertsons for all but the occasional thing. But when the local healthy market went corporate and replaced the healthy bulk foods with cheap sugary snacks, I had to revolutionize my shopping choices. I was delighted when I went to People’s Food and found white popcorn, which I haven’t been able to find in a couple of years! I also rediscovered sprouted unleavened bread (Earthseed, Manna, etc.)! I was reassured, despite the odd worm found in the greens, that the taste and nutritional value of the produce was unparalleled in mainstream markets. Radishes once again have a piquant taste!

I intend to divest myself of more areas where I am dependent on corporations for my sustenance. Little by little, perhaps I can.

Beginning Again
The end of the week is punctuated by the New Moon, which has Jupiterian overtones since it’s part of the mix. This will prompt us to take action, and the chances are good that you’ll feel like it’s a big month coming up, one where you’ll be very busy accomplishing important things. If you do, you’re in good company.

Oh, yeah, and if you read about my dilemma of last week (re. my broken mobile phone), I’ve settled on what I want to do. I can get the phone I have repaired for about as much as it costs to get a new one on a one-year contract. The new one would have Blue tooth, but I would have to find a completely different headset and car charger. If I get the old one repaired, I get to keep all the things I like about it, including being spared the trouble of finding new accessories. I’m for the repair! This fits the timing I suggested last week, with an early-week dilemma which is resolved by the week’s end. I’ll send off the phone tomorrow.

For a longer look ahead and more in-depth coverage ;-), read April’s forecast when it’s posted. In the meantime, enjoy the excitement. Change is good!

I’ve been having a “gobs of thread” moment. This refers to a story one of my English lit teachers told during my freshman year in college. She was talking about the intervention of divine grace, and she described a situation which, as a young mother, she found insuperable. She needed to stitch a frayed seam on her daughter’s blouse one day before school. In a hurry, she found that she did not have the cooperation of her sewing machine. She pressed the foot pedal, and all she got was gobs of thread. She began to panic, but tried again. Again, gobs of thread. Over and over, gobs of thread. Finally, in desperation, she prayed to St. Joseph, the patron saint of households (among many other things, I’m sure), and voila! - the machine started working.

Now, I don’t have a Catholic background or a relationship with St. Joseph, but I can relate to the “gobs of thread” story. I’ve been experiencing the modern equivalent of gobs of thread, only in the form of the mobile phone that died, the malfunctioning USB port, and the back-up software that doesn’t work on my computer.

So, I’m wondering, what’s up? Or more accurately, what’s going on “up there”, in the heavens? I quickly ran the chart for today, and there it was: Mercury and Venus are finally making their conjunction. You’d think that would be a fantastic thing, and if it happened in a void (well, it does, sort of) it would be. Their coming together does not occur by itself; it is tainted (sorry, enriched) by the fact that these two planets are moving swiftly toward Uranus.

Now, they won’t either of them reach Uranus until Thursday (March 27) or Friday (March 28), but that doesn’t matter. There are no barriers between them and the Great Awakener, so we are free to start feeling it now. :?

Uranus: The Featured Planet of the Week
Uranus is what it will be about this week, as Mercury and Venus gain ground on this planet of surprises. So it’s time to expect the unexpected! This is not a bad thing (I keep reminding myself). It may disrupt what we think we should be doing (like writing a weekly forecast update), but it gets to where we need to be in the end. It demands of us that we look at things from a higher perspective — or if we don’t, we’ll just be tossed to and fro without seeing what we need to see to solve our problems.

Example: I haven’t worked it out yet, but since my mobile phone quit, I’ve discovered all kinds of distasteful realities with my current carrier, like a complete lack of phones that meet my needs. So, I benefit by looking at things from a higher perspective — rather than just accepting a phone that doesn’t work for me. Should I change carriers? Maybe this is when I should switch networks from the US standard (CDMA) to the international standard (GSM). Maybe I should get a carrier that accepts phones that are dual band (carrying both CDMA and universal GSM).

I haven’t worked it out yet, and I wouldn’t expect to, since Mercury and Venus are still approaching Uranus. If I rush and try to make a decision today, I may not make the choice that is best for me in the long run. With the mobile companies trying to trap their customers in contracts that outlast the life of the phone, it takes careful consideration. What if I don’t like the customer service I receive with a new carrier?

Whatever you experience, it will tie in with events and issues of March 7-8, when Uranus was last "in the (astrological) news". This is when Uranus's new yearly cycle started, so this is also a check-in point --- what can you do to make the most of the situation you find yourself in as a result of these events?

But That’s Not All!
I shouldn’t say that Uranus is the whole story, because it SO isn’t! Jupiter is Uranus’s inseparable mate, at least this week. They are moving toward the first of three contacts this year. The contact is a sextile, in case you were wondering, and that means “harmonious opportunity”. Unlike the trine, which we had two years ago, you have to look for it and do something to create it when a sextile offers itself up.

Our cultural outlook right now tends to reflect this: Two years ago, we felt like the sky was the limit, and it had no ceiling. Money created itself. Now, there’s a greater understanding that the money has to come from somewhere, and since many people have tapped out all their resources, including equity, to buy other things, not a few of them are over-extended. We need to pay down the debt, both nationally and personally.

Chaos Is Good!
So, even if the outlook is more sober now, there are still opportunities out there to find and expand upon. Jupiter and Uranus are the ultimate planets of possibility if you know how to harness them. Jupiter expands on Uranus’s volatility harmoniously now (and this entire year). Uranus introduces chaos and Jupiter expands upon it. Chaos is not bad, and once you understand it, you’ll gratefully welcome it in your life. The Taoist philosophy of the East teaches that chaos is the source of all creativity, and the secret of the Tao is to be at the very center, where chaos co-exists with order, to be in perfect balance.

Jupiter-Uranus will give us our dose of chaos in a pleasant way, as unexpected opportunity. To take advantage of it, we have to see it — that’s the key. And we have an unparalleled chance to do just that with Mercury and Venus, the planets of perception, mingling with these two titans. So, pay attention! Instead of brooding over what happened yesterday (or 15 minutes ago), let your mind be a blank screen. Live in the moment. Those thoughts about the past or anticipations of the future could blind you to the opportunity that sits right in front of you. It will disrupt your plans in a delightful way, and it could be the answer to all your dreams.

Sit Back and Let the Universe Do the Work.
This energy will intensify over the week, reaching its climax on Thursday and Friday. The Moon plays a role, giving us a feeling of more flow and balance on Monday and Tuesday, with more action and challenge on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. So, just for this week, don’t get caught up in distractions or feel that the new problem that crops up necessarily needs to be solved RIGHT NOW. Everything will work itself out if you give the universe time to respond to your need. Then maybe you can try the same thing for next week, and the next ... and the next.

I want to pay homage one more time to the Sun-Uranus conjunction of last weekend. I think I mentioned that I had a near-accident while hiking the day of the conjunction (March 8). Well, considering that I had to make a trip to the chiropractor, I think we could say that it was an actual accident. My neck did end up jamming, and it wasn’t releasing on its own. However, the fact that I was able to function all week with a minimum of pain proves to me that my health balance has greatly improved over the past few months with my work to balance my energies and the cleansing I’ve been doing for the past month. So, I’m seeing progress related to my efforts associated with ongoing planetary cycles, even as another one starts.

Here in southern California, the hillsides are greener than I ever remember seeing them. There are flowers I’ve never seen before on the trails I usually hike on Cowles Mountain. There is a profusion of Parry’s phacelia peppering the hillside. I’ve never seen them there before! The trail is almost unrecognizable, it has become so much narrower because of the overgrowth of plant life.

What’s even more exciting is the crop of shooting stars that decided to bloom this year, the first time I’ve seen this beauty in San Diego County as well. All of this is because of the rains, which could be seen in the seasonal astrological charts cast for this region.

My New Uranus Project
I’ve just realized what my new Uranus project is: I’ve decided to get off the corporate food supply system. I’ve been dismayed to find how little real food is being offered at the local supermarkets and corporate health food stores. For a couple of years, I’ve been switching from one store to another, trying to find one that carried the products I am used to buying. Instead, I’ve been finding them reducing stock and variety because they “don’t have the shelf space for it anymore”. I’ve searched in vain for Health Valley Oat Bran Flakes, adzuki beans, and butter (Boston) lettuce that doesn’t come in a plastic carton from a corporate producer at 3 times the price it should be.

So last weekend I decided I’d had it. I have decided to search out other options. It will take me some time to do so, but I plan to visit all the farmer’s markets and alternative food markets in the area and put together a list. I’ve already talked to a friend about starting our own small food cooperative to buy some foods in bulk so we can get a decent price on them. This is at least one of my Uranus projects!

The Coming Week
As this week develops, Uranus may be placed on the back burner as other planetary activities take the lead. There’s only one major phenomenon, bringing our affairs to a crescendo on Friday.

Before that occurs is the spring equinox — the ingress of the Sun into Aries. This marks the start of spring in the northern hemisphere, on Wednesday evening. It’s a heady feeling, the anticipation of longer days and warmer weather, when everything grows and energy abounds! This is one of two times each year when the day and night are of equal length all over the globe - north and south. As this occurs, we have the opportunity to become conscious of the balance in our life and to reaffirm our efforts to maintain balance in all we do.

In pre-Christian cultures, the spring equinox was celebrated as Eostar, and many of the rituals associated with Easter (the egg hunt, bunnies, etc.) reflect a recognition of the growth that we hope for during the coming warm months.

Hold onto Your Hats!
On the heels of the spring equinox comes the full moon — on Friday at 11:40 AM — and what a full moon it promises to be! We will experience a cardinal grand cross which will last all day Friday. It starts in the wee hours of the morning (1:36 AM Pacific Time) and extends till the end of the day. It will bring about a recurrence of our experiences of two weeks ago, on or around the 7th. (See Chart A.)

Issues that promise to return to the news include Israel and the Palestinians, Iraq (eternally now), Pakistan, the FISA bill in Congress, The $3 Trillion War (the book by Joseph Stiglitz and Linda Bilmes), US policy toward Iran (signaled by the resignation of Admiral William Fallon), and of course the economy and banking system.

What makes this period volatile is the inclusion of Mars and Pluto in the pattern. Where normally on a full moon the Sun and Moon are across the sky from each other (look at sunset on Friday to see the sun setting and the moon rising), Mars will be directly overhead and Pluto hidden directly beneath our feet at the same time. They form a gigantic square surrounding us in spectacular splendor.

They will be near the most active points of the zodiac, and people who respond to these energies unconsciously and with power can do so to their own and others’ harm. This is an important time to pray for peace in the world. While we want to make sure that our actions are prudent, we are likely to be called to take action around this time as well. It’s as if some inner timer sets off its bell telling us that we must do it NOW. As long as we moderate extremes and don’t overdo, this can be a time to get a lot done in our lives. We can expect this to play out further until the Sun passes Mars, on the 30th.

In our own lives, we can examine what was going on around the 7th to ascertain what we will be doing this coming week and over the weekend. I expect that for myself I will be busy taking several decisive actions — making significant purchases for business ventures and completing a few projects.

The week is not without its harmonies, and the tone of this period promises good things to come. We can take advantage of the good planetary contacts during this time if we’ve laid the groundwork for those to rise to the surface in our lives. If we are busy putting out fires in our life instead, we will notice them less. Even though I don’t anticipate undue difficulty, I am humbly aware that unexpected events could distract me from my plans when these types of transits take place. If this happens to you, it is better to know that calmly setting aside your plans for what is temporarily more important will make it easier to get back to what you want to do. I’ll keep you posted on my experiences!

I knew that hiking on Saturday carried its risks. The Sun reached Uranus, the planet of shocking events, about noon (Pacific Time) that day. I was very careful, but I still nearly fell on a slippery slope, doing a neat little dance to recover without taking a tumble.

But it was more than that: It’s the time to ask, “What am I going to do with this volatile energy?” It’s like holding a bolt of lightning in your hands. Onto what turf do you let the thing loose in your life?! It’s in my first house, so that tells me to let its influence be felt on myself (my Self). Uranus is the planet that connects us with the buddhic level of consciousness — the intuitive realm. It is also the realm beyond the causal, where cause and effect are felt; so when we begin to tap the realm of Uranus, we have the opportunity to “cut across” our karma. We don’t have to play out the wheel of cause and effect.

But when we embrace Uranus, we get a package deal, including all the elements of shock and unpredictability that come with it. Opportunity and danger — that’s Uranus in a nutshell. Wouldn’t you like to break out of the wheel of karma? Even if it means going through a series of unexpected events? It’s the shock of the unexpected that jolts you up a level — or two — on the spiral of life.

Of course, the wheel of karma is our life as we play out the cycles of the planets. (We balance on several different wheels — planetary cycles — at once.) Uranus presents everyone with the opportunity to grow through shock. It is up to us whether we can benefit by those shocks. Excuse me if you’ve heard this before, but the I Ching says, in Hexagram 55, “Shock is good!” This is because it knocks the self-serving ego off its pedestal for perhaps the briefest moment, putting us in touch with the buddhic plane. This allows the true self to manage affairs for that time.

We can tell when the true self is in charge, because we are perfectly in the moment, we aren’t concerned for our own survival (knowing that we are protected and guided), and we are at peace in spite of circumstances. When we first experience this response to shock, it lasts only for the most fleeting of instants. But with each shock, our ability to stay in touch with the buddhic level grows. The ego is unseated from the throne of the self for increasing lengths of time with each unexpected experience.

Uranus offers this gift to us each year. It guarantees that opportunities to speed up our growth will come our way. It offers excitement (perhaps too much) and ecstasy. What have you been up to lately? The answer to this question will have embedded in it the seed of what you can explore over the coming year with Uranus.

For me, this could correlate with the “new me” I am creating with the health regimen I’ve been following, including a series of liver flushes and regular energy balancing practices besides my customary “best possible” nutrition and exercise program.

There’s a hidden benefit to working consciously with this planet. It’s like the North Star, pulling us toward our purpose. Think of it as our Cosmic Course Corrector. If we remain attuned to our inner compass, there’s nothing for Uranus to do to correct our course. When this occurs, it means that we’re essentially in touch with the Buddhic level enough to let it (and our true self) be our guide.

Other key dates in the Uranus cycle are June 12 and 26, July 14, September 12, November 10 and 27, and December 10. The Uranus thread in your life will weave itself into a story on or around these dates.

In Other News . . .
The Aquarian Crunch is over. Mercury passed by Neptune, the last in the line-up, Sunday morning (3/9). On Wednesday, Venus enters a much more favorable place for her — Pisces. This is the sign of her exaltation. Spiritual love is indeed a wonderful thing! On Friday, Mercury also enters Pisces. Dreamy Pisces is not such a great place for the Great Thinker, but it does have its visionary side.

Golden Days
Later this week, golden opportunities abound, as 3 of the 4 planetary pairs are activated that support harmony and agreement: Moon-Saturn, Venus-Mars, Mercury-Jupiter. (The missing one is Sun-Saturn.) These energies can be tapped through the 30th, off and on. If you watch the news, I believe we’ll see new accords and agreements emerge during this time. We can take advantage of this too. Even if you don’t know how to calculate a precise time to use the energies, with so many good times to choose from, it’s more likely you’ll hit one of them by chance if you go with the flow!
