We made it through the Great Passage, the awakening that we were born to experience, digging up 26000 years of karma, the rewards and burdens of our past actions. This shift of the ages has taken us to the very core of consciousness, to the thoughts and impulses that seeded the direction of human consciousness since the last cycle began one Earth wobble ago.

If we feel a little dizzy in the process, it is understandable; we are excavating at levels to which we have access no more frequently than every 13000 years (when one of Earth’s solstices aligns with the Galactic Center). The doors are open to the Source, to the origin of awareness. It’s unfamiliar yet strangely familiar.

We may feel these things, but until there are anchors for that energy in the visible world, we can only work with them as vague and general influences. We feel the urges but can’t put words to them. We sense their importance but don’t know how to respond.

Slowly, they penetrate our energy system, moving into a tighter, denser spin to take on shape and form. We feel these energies in a variety of ways. They may affect our night travels and our dream state; they flow into the physical body and push out distortions and obstructions; they sweep emotions out of their path like a scythe in a field of wheat.

Eventually we find ways to incorporate them in our self-expression — we must if we are to end the separation between inner and outer reality. They ooze from us as words and music, painting and sculpture, a new business here, an invention there.

magic-webHigher Energies Reach Us Through the Planetary Portals
These only occur as the portals open to the tangible-visible world, so that the rarefied energies can flow into our lives. The portals are marked by the visible planets, whose energies are potentiated by their interaction. It is only through the interconnections of Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars and all the other bodies that they create the opportunities to manifest All that’s coming in to our sphere now.

In February, this draws our focus toward healing. We may grow weary of the processes of releasing what blocks the light and distorts our reality, but there is no remedy but to carry on. In the context of a time when we are removing 26000 years’ worth of garbage; when we are confronting the consequences of human fear-greed-separation, we can expect to spend some time clearing away the cobwebs that have enshrouded us. Not only do we have individual misperceptions to dispel, but we need to awaken from the cultural illusions that have held us for so long.

sea-heartOur healing comes via the realm of Pisces, that diaphanous archetype that strives to reveal the spirit to us. This means that we can take on healing those parts of self that are distorted at the very highest levels where distortion can be found — our blueprint or Mother Matrix. Working through an issue on this level is like pulling a thread hanging from a mis-sewn jacket. We pull and pull, and more keeps coming forth. We pull the thread until to our horror the seam comes apart altogether, and only then do we realize that the only way we could mend the jacket was to start over again with that sewing.

Charta-pc-020613The good news is that we’ve been pulling at the thread for a long time, and the old seam is almost completely undone. The scary part is that we were relying on that seam, and now what are we going to do? As the planets move through Pisces in February and March, we’ll uncover the possibilities.

2013 Brings Harmony
The planets of 2013 are creating a harmony that pervades the year, despite the thunderhead of transformation that towers overhead. We will feel the storm, but knowing it is there we can take measures to protect ourselves against it. What’s more, in 2013 we can see where the storm is taking us and align ourselves with its winds and water.

Two things happen that make this kismet with Pisces significant. First, the planets form a close cluster there; second, Mercury retrogrades in this sign to triple our benefits as it makes three contacts with several planets and connects with everything except Uranus. This has a way of unfolding yet another aspect of the healing process we’ve been engaged in since December 2010, where we seek and define our new niche in the world.

This process encompasses all things in our life, like glass in a kaleidoscope. Move one piece, and all the others shift. This is not an overnight process, a fact that we may lament as we realize that what we wanted to create is not yet finished. In the past, it seemed easier; in the past, we could go after what we wanted and accomplish it — or could we?

Maybe we’re going after what really matters now, and it matters because we’ve always wanted it but didn’t know how to get there.

Mercury Leads Us Through
This is the nature of our Pisces healing dilemma in a nutshell. Thanks to Mercury, we get a chance to make serious headway in removing obstacles and healing old wounds. At the same time, we get to move forward in areas that we’ve worked hard to develop.

As of this writing, Mars and Mercury have moved into Pisces and are encountering those sources of our spiritual growth, Neptune and Chiron. We’re more tuned in to the ocean of consciousness, to vague influences and remote possibilities. What we see (or create an image of) is what we get. Where we put our focus now is exceptionally important, because this is a formative period.

Mercury sends us signals starting February 8 in a rush of stimuli that lasts through the 13th. Then Saturn moves into the spotlight as it makes its retrograde station on the 18th, adding momentum to Mercury as it reaches its standstill on the 23rd.

Although this time is preparation for the new Mercury cycle that begins on March 4, it is also the ending of the cycle that started November 17 in Scorpio. February is a good time to look back over what we have accomplished since. What goals did you set? What remains undone? hold-visionThe Deeper the Wave, the Longer It Takes to Surface
For many of us, we may find possible events and outcomes keep being pushed further into the future. This is because of the depths that are available to us right now. The waves of influence have to go to the most profound levels, requiring us to deal with the full spectrum of energies and impulses. We learn more in the process but feel delayed.

The important thing to realize is that what we’re building is more penetrating and powerful than we think. What’s on the surface is the tip of an iceberg of transformation. We may see smaller waves breach and dive; we may see others who seem to give up on their dreams; we may encounter extremes of doubt and discouragement from within and outside us.

We need to hold to our original insight, born of the clarity of innocence. Yes, we will need to reshape and modify as we go; but we were not shown that vision to tantalize us with what cannot be. If we can dream it, we can be it. This time of healing is not a time of letting go of our vision, but of refining and defining it as we bring it into form.

It’s like we’re all Rip Van Winkles, waking after a long sleep. It’s more than the usual winter hibernation in the dark — there’s a huge shift taking place, and we are wise to allow ourselves the time to absorb it, whatever we can spare.

2013 promises to be a gentler year than 2012 (or the three before it). In fact, it may feel more like the normal we used to know, with caveats. Of course, Uranus and Pluto are still doing their thing out there, and they aren’t going away for a few years yet. However, the number of contacts and the way in which they connect fall more in the range of what we might call “normal” in frequency, timing, and intensity. It’s almost like life has returned to normal too.

But not quite. The long-term changes that we have been focused on must continue. We are still deep into several big cyclic transitions, the longest being 26000 years marked by the solstice, one wobble of Earth on her axis, called the Great Year. Imagine that you are clearing 26000 years’ worth of garbage out of your backyard. That’s what we’re doing with our psyche: emotions, mental constructs, karmic baggage, spiritual blueprint. And there’s plenty of actual garbage to clear as well, as we rectify our relationship with Planet Earth.

The Uranus-Pluto cycle of roughly 120 years, the Chiron-Neptune cycle of 65 years are both at turning points as well. All these cycles represent factors that take years (if not millennia) to develop and whose resulting conditions won’t change overnight. It helps to know that what happens related to the Great Year has been with us for at least 200 years already, and the shift to the new Great Year is a subtle adjustment in the prevailing winds leading to another 200 years of renewal.

The seeds of the Uranus-Pluto process were sown in the mid-60s. The unrest, the insistence on equality for all, “Power to the People”, is being echoed now in the #occupy movement. It may seem as though conditions have not changed (except to worsen) since then, but that is not true: A process of emergence has occurred. There is more awareness of the conflict between the forces that resist change and the ones that require it, both in society and in ourselves. We also see (in larger numbers) what must be done — no more hiding from climate change or the cruelty of an economic system that enslaves people and nations through debt.

We’re not getting out of the situations tied to these cycles anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean the conditions won’t change — transformation is guaranteed. The shift is made as a series of steps. What we can expect in 2013 is a more gradual, graceful movement forward in some areas, punctuated by the periodic staccato of sudden change as the volatile Uranus-Pluto process is activated.

The gentler energies can be used as a foundation for our new life. In 2013, we can get more accomplished since we will have fewer interruptions, fewer events to throw us out of balance, more stability to wrap around ourselves. There are three configurations that will characterize 2013:

Minor Grand Trine
The foundation for our experience of 2013 is a Minor Grand Trine (see Chart A). Once Saturn entered Scorpio last October, it started creating harmonies where it was opening us to extreme challenges in the past. It’s true, the issues we face are still challenging, and Saturn in Scorpio carries its own dilemmas, but we can see a constructive way forward as a structure begins to emerge from the tsunami of change. This helps uchartA011413s to be stronger and to use our strength constructively. It feels like we’re beginning to get a handle on life again. This is with us throughout the year, but it is especially strong through September, until Saturn moves on to later degrees.

Jupiter Yod
Jupiter is the odd one out and brings forward long-term challenges, in a pattern that has been with us since October as well. Jupiter is at the pointy end of a yod, also called a Finger of Fate (Chart A). The two sides of this tall isosceles triangle are made up of quincunxes, that great revealer of ambiguity. In this instance, we may feel trapped by circumstances and not sure of the way out. With so many unknowns, we are uncertain of what’s real, what we can rely on. The resistance we feel from the universe (or our circumstances) feels like fate, but if so it is a fate we chose sometime in the past, however distant. By persisting through the doubt and uncertainty, relying on our initial insights that brought us here, we can prevail within this framework to a new platform of life. Built on the sextile between Saturn and Pluto, we need to be willing to transform ourselves and stare down our feelings of entrapment. Freedom seems tantalizingly close, and it comes as a release, not a prison break.

When Jupiter goes forward January 30, we start to feel freedom come to us spontaneously, propelled by our past efforts. Freeing ourselves becomes easier at that time, and we are fully released once Jupiter clears this pattern at the end of March. Our process with Jupiter — one that started in early June 2012 — will be sorted by late April, and we will complete by June 25, when Jupiter enters Cancer.

When Jupiter goes into Cancer June 25, it’s a new ball game and a good one in many ways. Cancer is Jupiter’s exaltation, which means that we just feel better when Jupiter is in Cancer. We feel more secure, confident, loved, and joyful. In this fertile emotional environment, we generate the kinds of wealth that Jupiter is famous for. We’re wafted aloft even higher by the Water Grand Trine that forms when Jupiter links hands with Neptune-Chiron in Pisces and Saturn (still in Scorpio). This will bring powerful waves of positive feelings that we can all use right now!

This is launched as soon as Jupiter enters Cancer, and it will stay with us through May 2014. Grand Trines can tend us toward extremes related to the element (Fire, Earth, Air, or Water) that this triangle is found in, but on the whole we benefit by this pattern. The Grand Trine is augmented by other harmonies. With Pluto in Capricorn, Jupiter will oppose it and carry its energy forward until it leaves Cancer (entering Leo) in July 2014. This forms a Kite (Chart B), which carries enough internal tension to lead to achievements as we deal with its highly transformative energies. This pattern is in turn nestled in a Cradle Configuration when other planets join it from the Earth signs Taurus or Virgo (Chart C). A Cradle is formed when there are at least four planets making sextiles and trines to each ochartC011413ther.   Plus, when both Taurus and Virgo are populated, a Grand Sextile is formed (such as in Chart C).

We have been experiencing the Cradle Configuration intermittently since Saturn has moved into Scorpio, where it is harmonically balanced with most of the other movers and shakers in the solar system Although right now the Moon makes up the fourth twice a month (when it is in Taurus or Virgo), the core planets in the pattern give us the space to create a truly strong foundation for our new projects. A Saturn sextile to Pluto and a trine to Neptune-Chiron endure throughout the year, a fertile and stable place to grow our garden of dreams.

Without even being aware of it, this helps us establish a rhythm of activity that leads to productivity.

Of course, there are the sticky times as well, when the energy is jagged or intense. Besides the Yod, there is the ongoing interaction of Uranus and Pluto, always on background until it leaps forward when contacted by other planets. When the other planets join in, as Jupiter does once in Cancer, the tensions ramp up. This is true at the end of June, early August, early October, December (and beyond). This is the renowned Cardinal Cross energy, still with us since 2010. It is our wake-up call to live sustainably, and we all have to shake the cultural slumber from our eyes. This pattern is activated weekly, for two days, by the Moon as well.

The year’s opening finds us in the middle of healing process. Jupiter is the sharp end of the stick on this one as well, as it makes three squares to Chiron, planetoid of the Wounded Healer. With Jupiter in Gemini, we are wobbling about something, trying to figure out how to heal something from all angles and not sure how to approach it. This is a multi-faceted situation, rich with areas ripe for growth.

The Small Picture
Finally, the personal planets (Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars) are traveling in a pack, with Mars leading and Venus trailing. This will reverse itself over the first six months of the year, with a new Venus-Mars cycle in the offing in early April. In January, Venus trails the others through Capricorn, finally connecting with the big guns just in time to seed the January 11 New Moon with the power of authentic, transformative love.

love-flameIn the Fall, both Venus and Mars prepare us for their newest retrogrades, introducing new plot twists to our love sagas. Venus commences her dive into the Sun on December 21; Mars starts his apparent backward travel on March 1 2014. For more on the current Dance of Love, get the guide.

And in January . . .
This means that relationships are on the front burner for everyone in January, especially for Cardinal types (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) and Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn). Unresolved relationship situations are legion right now, but we’ll start to turn this trend around in January, as we can finally turn to this vital aspect of our personal happiness quotient. It took a while for us to dig the hole we’re in, so we won’t have this resolved overnight; however, we’ll establish the pathways for peace and harmony that will be developed throughout the year.

Floating Lantern Festival Chiang Mai, ThailandJupiter’s cycle has culminated, and it is nearing the end of its retrograde (January 30) after a rolling culmination as the personal planets triggered it October 28 and December 2, 17, and 22. Situations that got complicated in June and September-October will move forward at that time, with signs of improvement before then. This participates in a deep clearing process that was initiated by Venus and the eclipses in early June. Fortunately, we have been working hard on clearing what stands in our way (even if we don’t realize it yet), and we will be on our way to new freedom by January’s end.

Pluto’s new yearly cycle of transformation started December 30 with more access to calmer energies than in recent years. That doesn’t mean we’ll automatically be more at peace, but we will have easier access to inner peace if we choose it. This is the most creative part of the cycle, so set your intention for what you want to transform (or more likely, can’t avoid transforming) in the coming year.

Train the Beast
The time of the Wolf, the shadow “beast” we each carry inside us, is over for now. The collective form of this shadow has been revealed and its effigy burned at the altar of the True Self. The beast is tamed and trained, not destroyed. As we crocean-angelossed the threshold into our new Great Year, the old shadow was released. It will return to be shaped in a brand new mold, however we (as in all of consciousness, one individual at a time) want to shape it. Let the healing continue!

We can’t say that our past is gone, but our understanding of it is substantially altered. Look at where you were a year — two years — ago. We remember what has happened, but we see it through new eyes, the eyes of the soul, to which we awaken more fully every day. ~

In recent months, I have talked about tools and approaches to manage and make use of the rarefied energies we are experiencing now. Whether we attribute our experiences to the Galactic Turning of the Ages, the Uranus-Pluto effect, or some other source, there is no doubt that the old paradigm is dissolving in the face of the need to bring ourselves into alignment with our planet.

The pressure has been on us to change, but the paradigm finally shifts when we change our values. A change in values brings a transformation in the emphasis we put on the things that populate our life, from our goals to our actions. Where material possessions were once considered a desirable thing, for many they have become a liability, weighing them down and trapping them in a life of too much effort put into the defense and maintenance of those possessions. For some, wealth has even become an embarrassment instead of a source of pride.

Thrift, reliability, and ingenuity are replacing expenditure (“shop till you drop”), disposability, and productivity as the most prized qualities in the new world we are entering. Resourcefulness is the new beauty in attracting a mate. The engine of materialism, the United States, is finally getting on board with the rest of world in an enlightened perspective regarding the true cost of our toys and gadgets (notwithstanding the iphone).

In addition to the consolidation of ideas and approaches that you will find in my latest astrology.com post, here are some more ideas about what we can do, as well as some sign-specific ideas about what we each can contribute to the process.

Some core principles to use in creating our future include:

1.    The bottom line that’s developing is based on the core principle of sustainability. If it’s not sustainable, we can’t do it, have it, or be it. This principle involves the leveling of extremes (equalizing), in a time when the distance between the haves and have-nots is particularly inflated.

The elements of non-sustainability can be found in any area of life, from finance and ownership to health and lifestyle practices to family and relationship to work and energy expenditure. We can no longer engage in activities which exhaust us, others, and our planet. Anything that makes us unable to keep all the balls in the air must go.

2.    The soul is in charge. This is a tough one for people that can’t feel their soul. If we have faith in its existence, that will see us through until we know from direct experience its eternal presence.

3.    A deep healing process is taking place. We are at the end of a 26000-year cycle (one wobble of Earth on her axis), the start of a new one. Think in terms of all that’s happened in the last 26000 years. That’s how much healing we have to do!

Whether you ‘believe’ in reincarnation and feel you have many lives’ actions to clear, or you find other ways of explaining the depth of process right now, negative actions and patterns are buried in the unfolding of human culture over the full extent of this time. They are being burned off now, in a process that we can scarce understand.

4.    Feeling overwhelmed, you say? Good! This is the right feeling to have. This means you are riding the wave, and your consciousness is correctly picking up the fact that the energies are huge and powerful. This is the place to start. This means you have found the edges, the frontiers, of your perceived capabilities. It is only when we feel the edges of our abilities that we even understand where we need to grow. What is working for us does not alert us to the need to change, but the edges tell us that a limitation exists and must be overcome. This is your pushing off point. When we are overwhelmed, the ego has no choice but to let go. Surrendering to the flow is the sign that this has taken place, and peace follows.

Use this feeling as the source of your healing process. The first step is to locate those edges and dream about the ways you can extend their boundaries (make yourself more capable). Yes, dream. Observe the images in your head, feel what draws you in your heart. Listen to what the universe is telling you, not so much in the advice of a friend as in the flight of a bird across your path or a snatched line of song on the airwaves.

It is only through our inner perceptions (intuition, imagination, etc.) that we can find our next direction, because that is where the soul communicates to us about what we in ordinary consciousness can’t see. The soul speaks from the invisible world, where all truth is formed.

5.    Take on the big task. Each of us has a Great Project before us. This is the launching of a new 26000-year cycle. We have to think and act on behalf of all Earth’s inhabitants for the new Great Age. We were born to do that by being alive now. We are privileged to be alive now, to have this great adventure in soul/human development before us. We each have a gift to give, and because it is our responsibility to fulfill it, the universe takes no prisoners in ensuring that we have every opportunity to do so.

If we dare to think beyond social constructs, beyond ego fears, beyond our perceived personal limitations, we will be shown a world so fantastic that we may doubt that it can ever be real. Yet, that is precisely where we are headed. The day before a gigantic transformation, it always seems impossible. The day after, it seems inevitable.

What gifts do you bear to give to the world at this time of giving and receiving, this time of rebirth?

Aries
You have the gift of no-holds-barred selfhood. What a breath of fresh air you bring! How well you embolden us all with your pioneering spirit!

Taurus
You bear the gift of foundation. You know how to lay the brickwork for a new world, one that will stand up to all that is built on it. How wonderfully your patience creates the space for us to do it right!

Gemini
You carry the gift of connectivity. Whether it’s your smart phone or your recounting of someone’s personal story, you are a feather lifting us on the winds of light. How joyously you extend our awareness!

Cancer
You are the vessel of feeling. In a world that numbs us, you are our canary in the coal-mine, reminding us to stay sensitive to ourselves and each other. How deeply we sense the eternal wellspring of life through your attunement!

Leo
You have the gift of heart. Through you, the true boundless generosity of the spirit is known, the infinite capacity for love. How warmly you share the Sun’s life-giving rays in all their hues!

Virgo
You are the seed-keeper of community. By your adherence to the greater good of the community, your focus helps us curve toward the good of all. How perceptively you discern our highest good and sow its seeds!

Libra
You offer the gift of balance. With your attunement to the delicate harmonics of space and time, you equalize the forces of extremes. How objectively you bring equalization and peace into our sphere!

Scorpio
You carry the gift of transformation. You see the deep picture, reminding us that life survives all change, and all transformation is just a rebirth of the eternal soul. How profoundly your wisdom comforts us!

Sagittarius
You bear the gift of soul-mind. You see through the eyes of the universe, the truths hidden behind the details, and shoot its arrow into our heart. How piercingly you help us cut away the falsehood from our lives!

Capricorn
You offer the gift of wisdom. Your breadth of vision across time and experience opens the window of understanding that allows civilization to thrive in all its high expressions. How safely we rest in the knowledge you bring forward for the good of all!

Aquarius
You express the gift of social insight. In a world where group interaction is the ragged edge of human evolution, you find the point of equalization and bring it to life in the hearts of all. How calmly you lead us to our collective center!

Pisces
You are the cosmic barometer. Your gift of sensitivity to the flow, in union with all consciousness, is a megaphone for the invisible world, teaching us how to experience it as the source of all things. How sweetly your surrender to the forces leads us into the unknown as we participate in our Great Project!

Things start moving forward again now with a bang and a plot twist. There’s a sort of culmination that’s coming in the next week, when a situation that may have started developing just over a year ago opens up in an unexpected way.

It’s raining blessings now, but they may not be showing up in a form we recognize. Losses may be the first sign, creating space for what we have requested. We asked for it, right? This is Uranus returning to forward motion as Mercury finally makes its long-delayed contact, bringing the rewards we thought were coming — what we couldn’t live without — in October. Well, not only might we have found out otherwise, but it gave us time for the flaws in our plans to surface. Good thing, that Mercury retrograde!

In Uranus’s inevitable way, events contain a plot twist flavored with irony, humbling in their perfection, astonishing in their brilliance for solving the problems at hand. This is the time of Cosmic Two-fers and Three-fers (and more-fers?). What we want is almost certainly is not coming in the way we pictured it, but it’s headed in the direction of our plan and purpose, so relax and enjoy the ride.

If your situation does not blossom in the next few days, it still primes the pump for future openings. You may get hints that something good is not far off. Let the universe whisper in your ear, and even if the message is unpleasant, its truth frees you to go where joy can be found.

As you take each step, the support will be there, and things are already improving.

If there’s any volatility in your relationship life, it wants release now. Unexpected or disruptive behavior from a partner has pointed to a deep need for change, and now is the time to talk about it. It will make both of you see things very differently, and progress can occur from this point forward.

Scorpio
The emphasis is on keeping your cool now, as an opportunity comes along that could change your life, as it certainly will over the next few weeks. Your daily life will change for the better, at least for now. There could be money in this direction further down the road, if not now.

Sagittarius
Now that you know why you need to recant, it’s time to do it. The forces that held you in check were the instrument of your salvation this time, but not without your capacity for deep self-examination. Your good inner work will blossom into new negotiating skills that give you more control over your life.

Capricorn
All that pent-up urge can’t stay hidden forever. Sooner or later it leaks out, but that’s the best way to let the truth be known right now. It’s quite a change from the past, and you don’t like disappointing your family and friends. What starts as a question leads to your opportunity give honest answers, and voila! You’ve headed off what could have been a holiday disaster.

Aquarius
That seed of insight you had in early fall is proving to be true, and it’s shaking your inner world. It’s hard to tell whether that’s because of what’s happening in your social circle, or because your intuition has become so accurate. Now you see the way forward, your inner compass leading the way.

Pisces
Accept it as unexpected financial demands come up. The money crunch now will compensate for a time crunch that could occur later. You’re launching something new, and the structures need to be in place first. For now, have faith in yourself and what you’re creating.

Just like in film and television, story and dream, we live as characters on a stage. We play many roles over our life — child, mother or father, hero, victim, teacher, lover, friend. We play some of those roles without realizing it — they are so much a part of being human that they come naturally and without thought or cultivation, and they teach us how to handle the personality traits that show up through these characters within.

Some of those roles teach us how to manage our animal nature — the part of us that is and relates to our physical body. Through our animal nature, we learn to manage hunger, thirst, shelter and self-protection, sexual desire, and death. This is depicted in star lore, the Tarot and Western Alchemy, Eastern philosophy — every system, because it is a universal of human consciousness.

Our Animal Spirit
The animal spirit comes in many forms and guises, and it is not just beastly in form. It is Jung’s anima/animus, our Animal Shadow. We see it in culture in stories like Beauty and the Beast or Red Riding Hood. Typically, these stories portray the Beast as male, but women carry their own feminine Beast as well. There are also the werewolf (‘man-wolf’), the panther in Mayan lore, and the tiger, found in cultures around the world.

We each speak many animal languages (and the animals are perplexed that we don’t recognize it), although we may be specialist in only one or two, usually the tamed-beast spirit of our favorite pet. There are many (hu)man-animal archetypes in our sky stories, from the ‘man-horse’ centaurs to the Water-Snake to Lupus the Wolf. Lately, there has been a special emphasis, from both astrological and cosmological perspectives, on the animal-man, especially the Wolf.

Late 2012 Is a Time to Release the Wolf.
Since October 2011, we have been working with the Beast in our lives in some way. This is when Saturn entered the part of the Zodiac associated with Lupus the Wolf. It has brought up many powerful patterns in ourselves and the human collective. In addition, there have been some particularly spectacular contacts to Chiron, the Wounded Healer-Centaur during this time frame.

This has also been brought forward as the old age ends and we prepare for the New Age that arrives on December 21st, the “2012 Event”. This is the “end” signaled by the Maya with their Long-Count calendar, the beginning of our return to the light. When the Solstice lines up at the exact Galactic Center, a new 26000-year cycle (of five Mayan Long Counts) allows the Earth spirit to hit the restart button, and humanity is taken back to its roots, in union with the spirit. The old forms of separation, fear, and rage must depart with the old cycle, and so the Collective Wolf is being sacrificed on the Fire Altar.

From August 17, we entered a time when the Beast was a dominant theme. We experienced a powerful release of our inner Beast that ended November 21.

Feeling and Healing the Beast’s Wound
For the Wolf to be sacrificed, he must come out of the shadows, and that he has been doing for sure, whether it’s through the pre-election political frenzy, the fury of Hurricane Sandy, or the rage currently being expressed in the Middle East. In our own lives, we see a reflection of this process in the form of others’ strong emotions and reactions, or our own. What is scariest about it is how uncontrolled this energy is when it emerges, but there is a way to release and heal it.

In the Fire, what burns is not the Wolf, but his fear-rage. This is the process of taming the Beast, but by gentling not by slaying it  (as shown in Tarot Key 8 Strength). Its fears of its own uncontrolled strength (especially in the light of others’ misunderstanding) must be transformed into the radiance of Soul by recognizing its union with All That Is.

We may recognize the Beast as the source of many possible human behaviors, from aggression to addiction to any behavior feels uncontrolled within us or another person. We fear that lack of control and its consequences, so we run from our animal side, recreating the separation that keeps us stuck in the Beast’s horrible wound.

When we befriend the Beast, s/he becomes docile and connected. What is no longer separated must be part of the light, Cosmic Union, and this is the nature of all consciousness — to recognize that it is united with all other consciousness and become part of the light. The animal spirit in each of us needs to be embraced, understood, and brought into the wholeness of Who We Are.

As we tame the Beast, we face power and danger. But if we are careful and compassionate, the Beast will give us what we need to exist. The power we gain from the Beast can be used to move harmoniously through situations where harm could come our way.

Get Aligned
When the new Great Year begins, the energies of inner peace are amplified as Earth makes its harmonic alignment with the precise center of our Milky Way Galaxy (its black hole). We have been in the zone of this energy blast for at least 200 years, building to a crescendo of intensity on December 21, then waning over the next 200 years.

As we pass through this zone, we are challenged us to respond to the shift, and we do, each in our own way. This rarefied energy vibration moves through each of us, body-mind-soul. Anywhere that there is an obstruction, the light pushes against it, and we feel the pain of what is stuck as realignment occurs.

That’s all it is! But of course, it results in total transformation, and we react against losing our moorings. People who don’t know how to change feel the most challenged, while those who have become supple through previous transformations will ride the waves more easily.

During this transition, we have endured shock after shock in things both public and personal. From the revelations that accompanied Hurricane Sandy and the US election, to a culmination of our personal trials, we have become acutely aware of the deep, down, and dirty both inside us and in our world. Our relationships have gone through the transformative fire as well, reflecting that of each soul.

December: Let’s Heal the Beast
We too reach toward the final (for now) healing of the Beast in December. If in September–November our Beast was inflamed through incidents that brought out his deepest wound, this forced him/her out of the shadows. It allowed the release of its most intense fear and rage, but this is just the Beast’s old way of protecting a horrible wound.

In political and world conflicts, this intense negativity is systematically being burned off. The burning will continue beyond December, but we can see recovery occurring in pockets here and there, in growing numbers. We can see it in our own lives as we go through our temporary insanity.

December is the time of the Centaur Sagittarius (until Venus leaves Sagittarius on January 8), who shoots his arrows of truth into our heart. It is time for us to stop running from our animal side and learn to understand it. When this is accomplished, we can see through and help heal the Beast in others as well.

This month is about doing what’s most necessary to make our transition into a completely new way of being. It will be like starting a new incarnation. There may be unfinished situations that remain so into 2013 — in fact, this is expected. But now we know what we want and how to go about it — or we will find out very soon. This is by far the greatest challenge in any new beginning.

We cannot stop our return to the light, but we can change its speed, and direct its energies along a unique and creative path as it climbs ever upward. Each of us develops an irreplaceable and precious gift as we make the ascent, our treasure of the spirit.

You discovered the Beast in your work or health environment, and you sought the support of a group or team of friends. Now it’s time to deal with the hidden factors that affect your ability to connect in close and meaningful ways — everything from sharing your secrets to seeking compensation for the value you offer to society (that is, making a living).

Gemini
Your Beast is competitive and insecure, found in the pursuit of your creative expression. Your response has been to master your talents — or perhaps to “win” by becoming an authority in your career. The real source of your healing comes from standing in your truth with those you trust and being accepted for who you are.

Cancer
Your Beast comes from your past, from past lifetimes and family/ancestry. You are healing the Beast from these depths, the unexpressed rage of millennia, and this is the culmination. You have made this healing part of your spiritual path, applying philosophy and insight to overcome — or perhaps to escape. Your way out now is to pour this energy into a contribution to society, a divine purpose.

Leo
Your roar comes through your speech, the outer form of your way of thinking. You have gone deep inside to discover your motivations, what drives you — or perhaps just hidden away. Now it’s time to find the seed of joy within and how you want to express it. This will heal you by expanding your social horizons to include more people of like mind.

Virgo
You’ve discovered that your Beast is aroused to hide feelings of inadequacy and unworthiness. Scorpio
Your Beast is archetypal, a shadow, and you’re seeing it more in others than in yourself, but you’re projecting it into the world from a hidden place in complex ways. The seas calm and we make safe landfall after many weeks following the currents to an unknown destination. In many respects we know where our port lies, and where the path into the right wilderness is to be found. It’s time to start again.

This comes by grace of Mercury’s station direct Monday followed by the Full Moon Eclipse Wednesday (Nov 28). We may feel like an arrow, shot aloft on the accumulated tension of several unresolved planetary stories. They all release at once, perhaps through a single event that sets a course for the future. If you do not find your old furniture swept away by this loosening, yours is a slower route to the same effect.

The Lunar Eclipse takes us into the inner depths, where we find the treasure of transformative meaning. We are spurred to take action, but the waveform penetrates so deeply, it may take many months to fulfill the grand plan. All this comes on the crest of another wave, as Jupiter’s culmination with the Sun leads us over the top with initiatives we defined in September-October. What we took on then is being illuminated with the facts, and we may see before us a longer road to our destination than we had hoped. What peaks for you now is your awareness of the uses of education and shortcomings in your career-readiness because of gaps there. There are a few steps you can take to stop the bleeding until you land upon a stable fix. In the midst of crisis, there is still something we can do. We can take care of ourselves to build a better world, one brick at a time.

In recent weeks — it’s hard to say when it started exactly — we’ve been emptying. We’ve been letting go of the past as we understand what is true and real, not a cherished image or fantasy that is perhaps yet to come. Over the past week, we’ve had to do something even harder than that: We’ve had to stay empty.

We’ve had to hold our empty space, a void, while the universe does a cleanse, signaled by our first eclipse in Scorpio-Taurus and by a concurrent Mercury retrograde invoking the same process. Although the eclipse came on Tuesday November 13, our time of being in the void was extended by Mercury until Saturday (Nov 17), when the New Mercury cycle started. Now we can begin to fill again. Your new life starts now!

This is true, even though Mercury is still retrograde. The word on the street is to avoid acting during Mercury’s retrograde, but those in the know understand that once the cycle is renewed, we can begin our new initiatives.

Aries

On the 18th, Mercury started reflecting our self-image back to us in a different (but familiar) way. Mercury is now just past the degree that it will come back to on November 26 during its retrograde period, which starts November 6.

This signals two things: First, it’s time to start our endings, as the current 3-month Mercury cycle (started July 28) begins to wind down. Second, it’s time to pay attention, because the universe is sending us hints about what we’ll experience during the retrograde, as well as what we can do with the energy to create what we want in the next Mercury cycle.

During Mercury’s 3-week retrograde, this Messenger of the Gods speaks loud and clear, blasting us with insights. But the seeds of those insights were planted during the previous 3 weeks that it took Mercury to travel through the zodiacal zone of its impending retrograde (apparent backward travel), barely perceptible but full of potential. They are the seemingly trivial thoughts and experiences that peek their heads out from the invisible realm hoping we’ll notice their significance.

Accumulate the Small
The seeds of the future exist at the emergent point that heralds change, the threshold between the visible and invisible worlds, where magic occurs. They begin to take shape in liminal space, that moody, dimly lit zone that is neither here nor there and so are malleable, open to being shaped by our thoughts and actions. This time carries the energies of activation and connection like a shell or womb, protecting what will be broken through as the new cycle unfolds. (This is the process described by Yijing Hexagram 9, Accumulating the Small.)

This is the time to nurture the smallest possible thing using the window of the imperceptible. To the ego, this is distinctly dissatisfying. It wants fast movement through grand gestures, but this is not the only way the universe works. Sweeping change comes through the nurturance of the field where that change will occur. Strength/force/power are build through focus (a yang process) and containment (a yin process). What is not contained dissipates; what is not focused is uncontrolled and may flow into our lives in undermining ways.

The Great, Grand Review
Our efforts to attend to the small things are supported by the lunar process as well. The Moon is in its waxing phase, which supports the building of force in the field of our dreams. This is a powerful lunar cycle, reactivating trigger points from the past in a “Great Grand Review”. This picks up the steam built but as yet undispersed not only from events that occurred over the past year, but over the past three years on one level and since 1982-83 on a deeper level, that affords access to karmic-ancestral patterns on a level even more profound. The times it picks up most powerfully include early November 2011, early February 2012, and the last week of June (2012). If something about those dates pops out at you, this is what you’re working through now, but with a twist: Now we get to carry forward the energies and situations from the past that we aren’t finished with. We have to reshape them to suit the new directives we are receiving as we integrate the recent sign changes of Saturn and the Nodes. Mercury’s new cycle helps us make that transition, and that is the magic we are making as we move from the summer “bridge to the future” cycle into the winter cycle. The new cycle will help us connect the dots in a new way as we watch something we can’t let go of morph into something we can embrace with delight.

This means there’s a whole lotta healing going on, especially given the piercing of Sagittarius’s arrows as Mars travels that sign. (See “Listen to the Thought of Your Heart: The Great Healing Portal of 2012 Opens” for more on that process.) Once again, the heavens conspire to lead us in the direction of harmony and beauty, casting aside the pain and sorrow of the past.

Turn Fate into a Chosen Destiny
The New Mercury cycle, coming as it does on November 17, will carried stored in it several significant events that occur in the days prior: the burst of healing contained in Neptune’s and Chiron’s stations direct; the dissolving of old ties and seeding of new ones that comes via the New Moon Eclipse; the crafting of a new path forward via contact with the North Node.

We are not meant to view life as a fateful occurrence, but to turn fate into a chosen and co-created destiny. As these connections culminate, we are given the opportunity to do just that — but first, a clarifying awareness.

We can’t wait out the energies of transformation that are with us now as a constant. We have to engage with them, embrace them, make them ours. Mercury and the Moon will carry us forward in this moment if we let them, giving us a way to tame the beast that threatens to overtake us, until it bows in recognition that it need no longer fight in fear.

In October 2009, we entered the world of Saturn in Libra. Saturn kept us in the Libra zone until October 5, when it went into Scorpio. When a planet enters a new sign, we experience it as a shift in energy, perspective, and priorities. This is a big shift that moves us from catharsis to healing.

This is because Saturn now moves into harmony with many of the planets it was either disconnected from or in challenging contact with — from a square to a sextile to Pluto, from no contact to Neptune to a trine. We’ll feel more supported, like there are actions we can take.

A Year’s End to Remember
When Saturn entered its new sign, it did so in the company of several other planets. Mercury went into Scorpio just hours before Saturn did, a chirpy companion to the great Lord of Time. Two of these ingresses are responsible for much of what challenges us now, those of Venus and Mars. Venus entered Virgo on the 2nd, while Mars went into Sagittarius on the 6th. Their entry into these Mutable signs reactivates the processes that have spiked into our awareness since February 2011, most memorably in early April and early June.

This re-stimulation brings back unresolved painful memories from these times, but also from earlier memories. When we experience emotional (and sometimes physical) pain, it is rarely an isolated occurrence. It is without fail tied to something we remember, whether or not we are aware of it. This is called recycling, where we cast a perception based on an earlier misunderstanding on current circumstances. We do this with positive experiences as well, but they cause little if any difficulty and it is easier for us to be in the moment and respond directly where we have a clear understanding.

How to Know When You’re Recycling Old Memories
However, for painful experiences where negative emotions arise, we are transported back in time to the age and space of the previous time(s) we’ve had a similar situation. We don’t know it’s occurring; we think we’re present, clear, and responsive to what’s real. There are earmarks to this process so we can tell when we are recycling:

  •  We experience pain, especially the pain of negative emotions like fear, worry, anxiety, anger, sadness, depression, humiliation, guilt, upset, isolation, abandonment, rejection.
  • We feel like it’s “deja vu all over again” — there’s a sense that we’re repeating a pattern, perhaps within a single relationship, sometimes across relationships. We have the same boss (in different skin) no matter where we work; we encounter the same type of relationship experience no matter who our partner is.
  • We feel like someone reminds us (not in a good way) of our mother, father, “ex”, etc.

When this happens, others may observe us as behaving in ways that are not typical for our personality. Indeed, as we are transported back to the originating misunderstanding or trauma, we will respond as if we are the age at which the original event occurred. In the most painful cases, we may experience post-traumatic stress reactions, which are more common than currently recognized. We experience fight-flight-freeze reactions as we are swarmed with stimuli that start a chain reaction in our energy field, personality, and physical body.

There is an excellent book on the subject that helps us identify the recycling process and the age stages we may be trapped in, Growing Up Again by Jean Illsley Clarke and Connie Dawson. The point is, we can relearn our early experiences — we don’t have to stay stuck in these old, broken interpretations. We can learn to connect, and like Inanna rising out of the Underworld, life appears brighter as we ascend step by step into the light and clarity of above-ground.

Use Astrology to Decode the Past
Astrology is a tool that can be used to home in on early experiences and trace them back with precision through the maze of subsequent events that repeated the misunderstanding. We can peel the layers of the wound away, one by one until we get to the core shadow, then lovingly clear it away to reveal the light of love, joy, and connection with others. It’s not that it immediately heals all situations and relationships, but that it helps us see what our role is and to rise above it to decipher where the zone of healthy expression is.

When someone we know is expressing their own painful memory, they will seem to behave out of character, perhaps reverting to the behavior of a child at a particular age — an infant, toddler, preschooler, etc. (This is of course what we look like when we’re in a similar space.) It helps to understand that they don’t know what’s happening — they’ve suddenly become a child, after all! If we can see through this with compassion, it helps us nurture those around us through their pain.

The Healing Portal of 2012
This is especially relevant for the rest of 2012 as we go through a unique set of planetary events that seem custom-designed to take us into our wounded area(s) and heal them layer by layer. Through the rest of the year, one planet after another challenges us in the early degrees of Sagittarius, mirroring our current awkward and painful circumstances so we can get to the truth at the heart of the matter and release the pain that masks it.

We’re probably acutely aware of what needs healing right now, since the sensitive points that touched our wounds earlier this year are now in sharp relief once again. The door to resolution and release is open through the piercing of Mars, the reconsiderations of Mercury, the commanding brightness of the Sun, and the gentle transcendence offered by Venus. All these celestial bodies will visit Sagittarius by December 31.

To heal through Sagittarius, we must befriend our animal nature — the wounded wolf, the starved kitten, the mighty lion. What needs healing will come back to us again and again until we clear it. If our pattern has been to avoid it in the past, that will not work now. And isn’t it better to be done with it? When the pain of holding on to something is worse than the perceived pain of letting it go, we finally push it out of our energy field and thus our life. Sagittarius is about transcending the problem, working through a shift in perspective that liberates us in one fell swoop. It is the answer that uproots the question, then makes us laugh at the irony that brought us there. It brings us contact with the universe of truth — a clean, clear, shadowless reality. It offers the paradigm shift to soul consciousness. The portal to soul embodiment and light infusion is flung wide open, and we have unprecedented access to the thought of the heart, where the vital forces are rooted in our self.

The Rules Are Changing
Saturn is giving us more support for our ongoing transformations, which means that we can start to rebuild over what has been destroyed. No, we can’t go back, and who wants to? We can see why what we’ve lost is not good for us, despite regrets. Now it’s time to turn and face the future, develop something better based on the wisdom we’ve gained.

The healing process of the next 2½ months is essential to this. It is an opportunity for the final ejection of a painful past from our thoughts, habits, and plans. As wave upon wave of sharp truth passes through us, it peels away the veils of wounded spirit. We didn’t know there was so much to remove, but after the fact we will see how we couldn’t have proceeded with those old patterns embedded in us, dragging us down. With crystal clarity we didn’t know was possible, we will be ready to melt the metals and forge the new vessel that will carry us across the river to an unexplored realm.

Write Your Own Story
Throughout this process, the universe extends its invitation to us to become aware of our ongoing residency in the mythic world. We can see it beckoning all around us, through fairy tale and story, movie and television program, the events of our daily life. There is poetry in each step we take: We are the King, the Queen, the Messenger, the Animal-Human, Princess, Robber, Prophet, Healer. We create our own stories — we do not and should not blindly live out the stories someone else writes for us. This is the challenge! We have to tell our story to our self, then reshape it to the harmonies we want to create, the happy endings we know are possible. We don’t have to accept the Greek stories or the Roman or Chinese or any other except as cautionary tales as we re-vision what it is to be human in this time of a great shift in consciousness in all beings.

Things are deep right now. Childhood experiences and patterns are rising up from calcified memory traces, resonating into the shadow lands of ancestral and evolutionary karma to call forth the events in which they are so profoundly rooted. There are so many celestial markers pointing to this phenomenon that it would take an entire post to enumerate them (and I have done so over the past few months in other posts, so look there).

As August and September have ticked away, I have found my experiences laden with twisted knots from the past casting their long shadows forward to now. They have revealed distortions that I have had the opportunity to heal, and in doing so recovering bits of self that I had ceded to others. I didn’t know what was missing — that anything was missing. I only knew something was out of alignment; I felt blocked and very uncomfortable with the blockage.

Restoring Our Lost Intelligence
This process is what I Ching (the Chinese manual of alchemy, the Book of Change) calls “restoring one’s lost intelligence”, and indeed that is what it has felt like. With Saturn in Libra and Jupiter in Gemini (both intellectual/Air signs), this is particularly apropos. The pieces of self that I have been recovering feel like they contribute to a wholeness that comes out as a form of intelligence. I feel confident where I was shy or felt unworthy; I know what to do in situations that previously confounded me.

This also applies to the fountain of creativity that we all have within us. I have felt my own connection to the Universal Flow wax and wane, creativity at times bubbling over and at others a yawning pit of emptiness, in harmony with my healing process. As we go through the pattern of September 2012, there is a ramping up of this process as Pluto and Uranus engage us in their latest release of unignorable truths coupled with the compulsion to heal.

So how do we finesse this process? We can hone our recovery of lost intelligence and creativity to a fine edge, so that we move with efficiency and minimal drama through these experiences. First, we have to recognize the process and find our place in it. Then we have to develop a method of understanding and releasing the distortions we encounter. Finally we have to give ourselves the time and space to do what is necessary to bring clear, undistorted/harmonious patterns in to replace the old shadows.

It’s Time to Enter the Mythic World
This is an unfamiliar landscape to many if not most people “out there”, and this is the place to start — that in Westernized culture we have lost the intelligence of doing inner work. We have to recognize that the inner landscape exists, that we are incredible prisms of crystalline energy reflecting and refracting light into all the colors of the Cosmic Rainbow; that we take these colors (color rays) and give them the shape of the symbols that invigorate us; that we act out these symbols as archetypes, actors on life’s stage, the world a Magic Theater.

Once we enter this mythic landscape, colors become more vivid and the world’s manifestations fall into threads and patterns woven together by our life story. Clarity replaces confusion, and the inner harmony of all events — how they can contribute to the good (even if only as cautionary tales) — is revealed.

We have been schooled by industrialized society out of being in tune with the Mythic Clock — the patterns of the planetary cycles. These patterns drive our experiences until we take the wheel and find our own unique and co-creative harmony with the Mythic World. As the planets move and interact, they connect us to the myths of all cultures told through the constellations. We live the stories in the sky, and until we become conscious of them, the order of our experiences may escape our grasp. Once we understand that this is occurring, we can potentiate our process by embracing the core truth carried in the sky stories and augmenting the inner process carried to us in the chalice of the planets.

We don’t have a choice in whether we participate in this planetary offertory; we chose that upon incarnation. We do have a choice as to how we experience it.

How do we do this? There is a lot involved in restoring this awareness to those of us miseducated by the Western school systems. The dumbing down of consciousness has reached a new low that signals the return of a brighter wisdom.

Follow That Feeling!
The simplest thing I can suggest is to follow your feelings. When you have a familiar perception, there will be a feeling associated with that. If it is unpleasant, it is out of harmony, so it’s time to get curious. Ask yourself, “When did I last have this feeling?” Chances are, your answer will be about a recent similar circumstance in your life, and this means you’ve discovered the pattern.

Continue to follow the feeling back in time. Where did that feeling come from? What previous experience gave you that impression? We need to follow the feeling back and back and back, until we get to the earliest possible memory of when we had that feeling. If memory fails you, wait and don’t give up. Use the NLP technique, “if I could remember where that came from, what would I see?”

Many of these memories will have taken root in early childhood, but don’t skip over events after that. The latency period of childhood, the teen years, and young adulthood are very formative. We can also use past astrological events to find the keys that unlock the doors to the past. For instance, the Saturn-Pluto conjunction in late Libra of 1982–83 is being acted out in everyone’s life right now and through October 4 (part of what’s taking us into the Deep).

Let the Thread Take You through the Labyrinth
Once you’ve found the thread, it will likely want to take you back to experiences before this incarnation. We can discover our own path through these or engage the support of an intermediary who can follow those threads back in time. Sometimes they are tied to our ancestry — things experienced by our blood predecessors.

When we take on the healing of these patterns, we restore our wholeness in those areas, recover our lost intelligence, and restore it to all those involved. Some have taken on the specific task of healing a family system (signatures in the birth chart will tell); if you are a black sheep in the family (or have resisted being one), it’s likely that you have taken on this mission.

It’s all up in the air right now. That’s good, because there we can see what it is. We are larger than our experiences, and we have to know that to heal them. We have to find their edges and use those boundaries to limit their influence, pushing against them to move them out of our life (energy field).

Our Inner Work Positively Affects Everyone to Whom We Are Tied
So often, our experiences are individual and personal but based in mass/common responses to group/cultural events. We can see this in living memory, such as the panic attacks experienced by the children of those who lived during the WWII Holocaust. Karmically, when we recall a trauma related to a group event and heal it in our self, we also augment the healing of the group.

So much can be done on the inner planes. It is not always necessary to confront others about what happened in the past, but instead to deal with it energetically in our own field (not interfering in theirs), knowing that our own healing process will send out positive ripples that are felt and responded to in the wisdom of the others’ soul consciousness. Anyone to whom we are connected “by the roots” is harmoniously affected.

We Can Take Off the Mask of Unreality
As we go through Pluto’s Station Direct, the 2nd of 7 Uranus-Pluto squares, and Saturn’s final days in its exalted sign of Libra, we are engaged in deep revealing and healing of conditions from the past, however we want to conceptualize them. These old shadows have formed a blanket that muffled our senses and made us believe in the unreal, the mask of fear and separation that we didn’t know how not to wear.

Now it is possible to move more rapidly into the light, to remove the blanket and experience the rich and vibrant kaleidoscope of life that co-exists with and interpenetrates the false reality. Here lies the realm of joy, where we experience our infinite nature unfettered. May this certain knowledge inspire and propel you through the periods of darkness.
