We have just passed through the eye of the needle
for the second time this year (the first time was in January) as Sun and Mercury connected with Uranus and Pluto, the flagship planets of 2012. As we continue to go through this ongoing process, it helps to review a key piece of what we need, and what could keep us from fulfilling our potential. This is a revised passage from the January forecast.

The Elephant in the Living Room
For the next five years, there’s a huge elephant in the living room: Astrologers describe it in terms of Uranus’s waxing (opening) square to Pluto. There is a great deal of talk about the Uranus-Pluto square and 2012, but if you feel fear when you come into contact with it, you aren’t alone. This and agitation or anxiety are the feelings humans commonly experience when encountering these planets. However, this is a reactive response, and it doesn’t present a true picture of the energy.

There is no doubt that people experience fear when they encounter the forces associated with these energies on this planet at this time. There are plenty of agents that propagate fear; they have done so for millennia and do so with great finesse. We as a species have gotten so used to messages with fear triggers in them that we expect it. The “news” is generally full of fear triggers; they are what keep you listening. It is even the belief of those instrumental in this approach that it is necessary to motivate us through fear in order to keep us listening.

We could say that this is part of a mechanism by which we are controlled, but this is placing too much conscious agency and insight in the hands of those who are so fear-driven themselves that they don’t even recognize it any more. Most people are barely aware of their fears, and there are two tasks before us: recognizing, then clearing them.

There are many benefits to the energies that come to us now. We could even say they are essential to our evolution. As we walk through the peak of this energy pattern, which lasts through 2015 and will be felt for many years beyond, we have the choice to master our emotion/fear-driven identity and choose inner peace and soul-filled reality; or remain confined by fear and its sibling emotions. We have the chance to live in the light, of the light, and share it with others.

As light-workers (or however we want to think of ourselves), we have a responsibility to ourselves, each other, and those less aware than us, to spread light — to remove fear and redirect its energy toward the light. Every time we give in to fear, we cede our individuality to the cultural institutions and authority figures that feed on and foster it. We can take a stand against fear.

Stamp Out Fear.
Energetically, we can learn to manage fear. Fear has no place in a healthy energy system (but it will tell you that it keeps you safe). Fear blocks energy flow and begins a downward backward spiral that drains life. We do not need fear to provide us with signals. When we feel fear in its many guises (anxiety, worry, depression, sadness, helplessness, etc.), we can push it out. There are many ways to do that, but all we need is a firm “no” to the fear and the misunderstanding that prompted it, or a “yes” to the energy of peace and joy that we can use to replace it.

The more we align with peace and harmony, the easier it becomes to recognize negative emotions like fear, and the harder the ego-self will work to pull us back into the familiar territory of the old, comfortable thought-highway that follows the path of collective fear. This is where “comfortable/familiar” and “safe/secure” are not the same thing (although it is common to confuse them). We need to stamp out fear, push it away. End of story.

Frank Herbert, in the Dune series, says this of fear:

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain. (Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear)

While I do not advocate allowing the fear to enter my energy field, I agree with him that I am larger than any fear; that fear must be faced. If fear enters (or arises in) us, it only does so because it finds energy of matching vibration within us. In other words, fear finds fears that we already have stored in our energy system on some level. These stored fears consist of thoughts that we experience in terms of ideas (comprised of words) and of primal emotion that is carried over from our experiences before we had words to describe them, including in the womb and forms of existence prior to this lifetime.

Part of becoming beings of light involves casting out these fears, and once encountered this Pandora’s Box may seem bottomless. In a way it is, because once we cast out our personal fears, the fears of the collective begin to come out of this box-with-a-hole-in-the-bottom as well. This is when we begin removing fear for humanity.

No matter the source of fear, the response is the same: Cast it out. Stamp it out. Clear it. Free yourself of it. It is not a part of the light and has no business being there. We do not need fear to keep us safe.  Send it to be dissolved into the light, into Gaia/Earth, who lovingly absorbs and transmutes it. Every time we do it, it gets easier to recognize and easier to cast out.

When We Are Freed of Fear . . .
Once we are freed of fear, we encounter a myriad of more positive responses to the powerful energies we are facing. These energies are in essence both powerful and creative. As with anything powerful and creative, this energy can be used also to destroy, because old energies must be removed in order for new life-light energies to be introduced and circulate freely.

We may not always figure it out right away, but when we have learned how to consistently release fear, our personal path to the light proceeds more quickly because we are moving the obstructive fears that prevent or slow this progress. We also approach all circumstances more openly, with curiosity and delight. We see the irony of the universe and the beauty in its efficiency and timing, so that many goals are accomplished in one fell swoop. We see the purpose and perfection behind events when we are not vulnerable to fear, which makes us attached to outcome.

What rises to the surface when fear is removed are:

  •     creativity
  •     curiosity
  •     love
  •     joy
  •     feeling our wholeness and Oneness with All
  •     enthusiasm
  •     peace
  •     compassion
  •     insight/understanding
  •     tolerance
  •     resilience (strength + flexibility)

These are among the ways that we can experience Uranus’s square to Pluto. We can learn to access these higher vibration states, goaded by the pain of old negative emotional patterns. The soul sees the opportunity here and revels in it, even if our mind-body complex lags behind. How can we not take advantage of this great opening to find love-joy-peace?

If we look at our life pre-2008 as compared to now, most of us have more time to live than we did before. We have time to do the things that we talked about wanting to do then. We are unleashed to journal, draw, paint, write, compose, perform, construct, muse, dream, rest, do nothing, play, run in the waves, observe the planets, weave energy, and grow as never before. ~

Since April 11, Venus has been leading us through the labyrinth, following a thread toward the Great Mystery we call love. Since entering Gemini on April 3, she’s been very talkative, even loquacious; as her energy flows through us, we notice we want to say more than is “prudent”.

But if we pause to listen within — if we pay attention to the process of following the thread, we see a story unfolding. We hear a whisper that is Venus telling us what’s coming on her retrograde, which starts May 15.

What has shifted for you in terms of focus, method, and emphasis since April 11? By staying attuned to this question day to day, we can feel the heartbeat of the universe as it points the way to love in all its myriad forms. We can see how we are being prepared, for the retrograde (May 15 – June 27), and also for the 17 months following the retrograde when we do the work that fulfills the promise of the retrograde.

A shamanic view of the Venus cycle takes us from the more common feeling of being obstructed by a retrograde to being “tasked” by that retrograde. What is it that the planet wants us to learn, to accomplish? What steps on the path to love are next?

That is shown by where Venus is moving in your chart (see my Venus report, “It’s Not Too Late” for sign-by-sign details). If we relegate Venus to a position of relative unimportance at any time that she’s not grabbing our attention (as she will during the retrograde), we defraud ourselves of our full potential to experience loving and being loved.

We Are Being Prepared for the New Cycle of Loving.
So as we advance through the “signal-sending” period we are in now (April 11 – May 15), we do ourselves a great service by responding to the signals we receive. We are being prepared, if we will allow ourselves to be led. Think of yourself as a love detective, searching for areas where you have blocked your own path to that sweetest of experiences. Look for the ways in which well-timed and -expressed communication (as well as the need for pauses and silence) find a new rhythm in your relationships.

During Venus’s retrograde all our relationship agreements are renegotiated: family, work, partnership, organizational, etc. Being conscious of this process makes it easier to feel the flow and where it takes you next with each bond. The ultimate renegotiation is with our Self. All ability to love stems from our ability to love our self. Reinvigorating our commitment to our self — through self-nurturance and inner attunement — is the place to start. From that renewal, all other agreements flow seamlessly during the retrograde, to be implemented in the following months of Venus’s travel direct (until the next retrograde 19 months from now).

In astrology, there is a tendency to focus on the future — in an unhealthy way in my opinion. Too much time is spent trying to find out what will happen to us on some distant date, generating fear that it will or will not come to pass. Apprehension infuses most people’s view of the future in general, since we have been taught to fear what is unknown. Astrology has been used for centuries in sincere efforts to quell fear, but when we focus primarily on what will happen, as if we have no influence on it, we set ourselves up for fear and disappointment.

If we use our knowledge of the cycles and how they work to inform the present moment, we take our power back. We can learn how the seeds of the future are planted by the thoughts we have now — something we have (or can develop) the ability to manage if not control. By working with the present moment, we become co-creators with Divine Intelligence, and the world becomes ours.

To fully inform our understanding in the present moment, we need to engage in observation of the past. If we do not take time to look back and learn from our experiences, we are setting ourselves up to repeat the lessons. We can maximize the leverage we get from each planetary event by seeing what we did with it and how we can grow from our experience.

Two Planetary Cycles Have Ended.
It is well worth taking time this week to engage in this kind of retrospective. As Mercury completes its travel over the degrees of its retrograde and Mars begins to move forward after its long reverse transit, looking back is essential. We need to ask ourselves questions like:

  • What was life like for me before the retrograde (or other cycle) started? What did I believe? What were my circumstances?
  • What did I do during the retrograde that was effective? Ineffective?
  • What is different now? What lessons did I learn? What can I carry forward as wisdom to apply in my life?
  • What platform have I established for the next cycle (Mars = 2 years, Mercury = 4 months)? What am I setting forth to accomplish?

We Are in the Last Week of This Lunar Cycle.
This also applies to where we are in the lunar month right now. The last week of any lunar cycle (starting April 13, following the Third Quarter Moon) is a time to integrate what we’ve experienced and expressed during the previous three weeks. This integration process occurs naturally when we go inside through reflection, meditation, journaling, thoughtful conversation, etc. We are naturally drawn inward as the Moon grows dark, until, just before it becomes New (this week on April 21), we have the opportunity to set our intentions for the coming lunar month. This is why the Dark (Balsamic) Moon is also called the Wishing Moon. This sounds too wistful to me, infused with the energy of “if only” that implies failure. I would prefer to call it the “Intending Moon”, because we have the power within us to co-create our future from this moment.

The key to doing this well is contained in the wisdom we can gain from our retrospective process, from observations and insights gained at the time that a cycle is ending. When we embrace endings just as much as beginnings, we complete the circle. When we ignore our inner life, we cheat ourselves of the opportunity to build yin force. Yin and yang need to find equal balance in our life to develop true strength, the combination of power and flexibility.

Although there are the processes of Saturn, which is at its peak or “Full” phase right now, and Mercury’s movement into Aries that will spark activity, take the time this week to look back and squeeze all the wisdom you can muster from your experiences so far this year. You will find treasure waiting for your discovery, the perfect resource on which to co-create your future. ~

Seed thoughts lie at the heart of all our actions, thoughts, beliefs. If they are “positive”, in alignment with universal consciousness, they bring us peace and open life to us. No problem.

But if they are based on the separation that comes from fear, anger, or self-deprecation, they wreak untold havoc. They become nuclei of darkness from which an oily tarmac of negativity stems. It creates and recreates itself, proving over and over again that it is right and all attempts to refute it are wrong.

As we blast into the new chasm of consciousness that Pluto will have us clearing out for the next 4.5 months, it’s good to explore the nature of seed thoughts, because we’ll be encountering them in our cave-clearing process.

An example of a seed thought might be, “Authority figures know more than I do, and I have to obey them.” This is not something we actually ever think about; it’s something we just respond to instinctively. Seed thoughts get translated into our life in many forms, such as “Doctors know more about my body than I do, and I must do whatever they say.”

Life presents us with myriad opportunities to encounter the discord created by such thoughts, but they are connected to our need for survival, so they are resistant to detection and change. Pluto opens us to them by showing us (often in dramatic ways) what isn’t working in our life because of them. It’s up to us to detect them and blast them out of our psyche.

With practice, we can follow our mental process back to the assumption underneath. Once we detect that something isn’t working, we can reflect on where our mind set about it comes from. This is what Pluto does for us. It isn’t often easy, but it is always of precious value.

Buried in the muck at the bottom of the cave are diamonds and gemstones of truth that with persistent digging we can find, polish, and embed in our consciousness, an unerring guide to ourselves and a beacon to others.

With the piercing of the karmic veil by the planets in the Mutable signs that began April 3, we have access to harmful seed thoughts from deep in our consciousness. The orchestration of planetary events in April 2012 displays the incredible genius and perfection of the way the cycles unfold. We can use this time of unparalleled opportunity for growth if we will set aside our reactions just long enough to get curious about what’s bothering us. Ask yourself, “What is this anyway, and why is it calling my name?”

Pluto will help you find the answer, a guide on the transformational journey called life. Pluto is retrograde in Capricorn April 10 – September 17. Make it a good sojourn!

. . . and keep the energy flowing.

by Terry Lamb ©

There is so much going on with the planetary sphere right now, it’s hard to make sense of it all. What’s a human to do?

Mercury is in the final throes of its retrograde, the same for Mars. Can we get everything done in time? Retrogrades take us back, help us retrieve lost opportunities, and show us our weaknesses so we can better prepare for the coming period of “ordinary life” (forward motion). With Mercury in Aries and Mars in Virgo, the contacts they make augment this experience. Mars in the preparatory sign of Virgo adds that archetype of organizing and perfecting to the mix.

The Retrogrades Intensify Our Awareness and Lead Us to Action.
While a planet is retrograde it will either magnify or suppress existing processes. If there’s something in your life that is already suppressed — where energy has built up — generally its energy is boosted and it may burst forth to make up for lost time. When something has been fully “out there”, it may be pulled back or internalized for reshaping. When the planet returns to forward motion, things return to a new normal. A retrograde planet steps into the spotlight and brings our focus to the needs it represents. It is, after all, closest to Earth during this time.

The usual-suspect story in your life is easy to pick out of the line-up when you’re solving one situation at a time. But right now we have three story lines that overlap, with contributing subplots on background. Two of these stories are set to find their new normal — one that has developed since early November (your Mars story), the other that has been with us since late February (your Mercury story). They may overlap or be two facets of the same story. (What are your story lines?)

The New Story
There is another story that is emerging, one that came into focus in the week between Christmas and New Year, your Pluto story. This is a story of long-term transformation, and we are in the “hot” period right before its retrograde when every little thing we do, say, and experience internally feeds our journey through the retrograde period. We may feel that we are out on a limb about something, taking a risk that has us on tenterhooks. We take the plunge, courageously embracing this year’s Great Task.

With Mars and Mercury slow, almost still, soon to move forward again, they are already releasing us, decompressing the situations that were under pressure to find harmony in our lives. However, Pluto is starting to pull us back, taking us deeply within to find our next moment of truth.

How to Work With Crosswise Treading
This energetic pushme-pullyou can be confusing. We can see it visually as two currents that feel like they will nullify each other. This may result in fear that all the hard work we’ve done is for nothing — that no “harvest” will come from Mercury and Mars.

Nothing could be further from the truth. The harvest is here, but there is a part of the crop that is still growing — part of the situation that is still under development, still young and sprouting. This is the sign of life and eternal regeneration, not an end to our dreams. This affirms for us that something is always growing and changing, and that our dreams are progressing. Only now they are in the frame of “what needs to transform” (Pluto), a shift from the frame of “what needs to be prepared in order to make the transformation” (Mercury and Mars).

To accomplish this, we can engage in “crosswise treading”. This is essentially the act of weaving together these two energetic pulses into one stream that can pull us forward. It is also called for when ending an old cycle and starting another. To grab the energies and redirect them, we need to figure out what stories they relate to and see how they affect each other. (Use the dates mentioned above and your calendar of activities or financial records to help you.) Then take whatever actions are called for to connect your preparations to your new process of deep realization and change.

Sometimes it feels like we are appeasing two very different masters, or we have to sacrifice in one area to create an opening in another. If the energy feels stuck or blocked, there’s something you’re working on that needs to be cleared — a past experience, mistaken understanding, fear, or aversion. Stay with your resistance until you understand its source and can let it go.

Use the Full Moon and Mutable Energies.
We have two supports in this process: the Full Moon (April 6) and a strong pattern in mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces). The Full Moon brings out our feelings and our yearning for harmony and connection with others. The mutable pattern brings forth a sensitive area that has been hurting for a while, as long as a year, that has its roots in the past. This wound can be cleared under these energies and the healing process begun under Pluto’s energy. Using Pluto’s current opening will allow the pain from our past to be fully replaced by peace, joy, and love, never to return.

To work with the mutables, we must proceed gently, gently. The slightest movement creates waves in these responsive, flexible signs. Work around a situation and observe it from all sides. This reveals hidden factors and defuses fear, brings clarity. After coming full circle, you’ll see the way in. Take your time. If you push into sensitive areas, it will take longer. If you wait for the barriers to give way, they fall easily.

There are more overlapping energies coming up during April and May, and the stories have the potential to end in fulfillment. Using this one with full awareness sets the stage for optimizing those as well. ~

. . . and keep the energy flowing.

I wrote something on Facebook last week that struck a chord with a few people, “The obstacle course you see before you is the very thing by which you will be carried to your goals.” I realized that this is the key to using the energies of this transformative time.

Uranus and Pluto are moving into a square (90̊ angle) aspect to each, bringing a long-term transformation to all things and beings on Earth — to the planet itself. While this connection occurs about once in 100 years, the context for it (including the signs involved) intensifies its impact in our lives to astronomical proportions (no pun intended). With such grand energies as these floating around, we are quite frankly at a loss to deal with them because they are so much larger than ourselves. We can only see the fingertips on the hand of change that lies beneath the surface ready to emerge — the fear and discontent amid economic decay, ecological imbalance, and fuel sources tapped out.

Uranus and Pluto are meant to blast through what blocks us. They are agents of change. So how do we cope with, or better yet thrive on, these energies? The key is to turn the prevailing attitude toward change on its head.

First, we have to embrace change. We can always see something we wish were different, but now we have to know that it’s possible and step into the challenge of making it so in our life. It helps that a growing number of people are getting on board the train of transformation.

Second, to do that we have to take a new approach to what blocks us. It is human nature to want to have things easy. Life seems hard enough without adding “change” to the mix.

Well, I want to suggest that it is precisely because we avoid change that we are blocked; that obstacles are not there to prevent us from succeeding but are there as beacons leading us to where we need to grow. We need to go toward our weaknesses, not our strengths, because we need to shore up our abilities, become stronger, through experience. We need to plug the holes in the boat.

As we enter the season of Uranus-square-Pluto, Version 2012, our first hit comes with the Sun’s conjunction to Uranus, which occurred on Saturday (March 24). What did you encounter, are you encountering? The Sun will send signals to us between now and March 29, the nature and theme of which may not be fully seen until the end of this lunar month (April 21). And we may not fully comprehend the impact of these events until after 2015. Take notes, and you’ll be chronically your part in one of the most miraculous times in human history.

This is a great time to be alive. We chose it so we could grow. An obstacle is a gift that is only unwrapped in making it disappear. Embrace your obstacles: That is where the path lies.

Mars retrograde report (includes insights for your sign).

. . . and keep the energy flowing.

by Terry Lamb ©

The current Mercury and Mars retrogrades (yes, they are both moving “backward” right now) have one thing in common. They induce us to prepare. Maybe it’s because we don’t have anything better to do. Maybe it’s because we recognize that as things start to come into form that — gasp! — we aren’t quite ready for what’s ahead.

However we come to the realization, there’s no doubt that we’re busy getting ready. When we started the process (especially if we haven’t followed the planetary cycles), we didn’t realize how long it would take. We wanted/needed change, big change. We didn’t fully understand what we had to let go of, open up to, and how long we had to be patient.

But as dreams come into form, their reality may surprise us. With Mars in Virgo (the ultimate sign of preparation), the Earth Grand Trine, and Mercury retrograde anywhere, we are setting the stage for a new story to play out in our lives. It can be a big, beautiful story with happy endings. We are launching a two-year cycle, and a 4-month cycle, so the potential of this time is great.

One of the most important ways we can prepare is to cast away what is old and outmoded. We can’t bring something new in if we’re still filled to capacity with what has gone before. To truly let it go, we have to bless it on its way but firmly push it out the door. The themes will tie in to where Mars is traveling in your chart. Here’s a quick list of what you’ll be letting go of:
Aries – unhealthy ways of “taking care of yourself”
Taurus – re-evaluating risk versus security, letting go of living in “safe mode”
Gemini – toxic factors in your home environment and family
Cancer – ways of thinking that keep you stuck
Leo – how you spend your resources/money
Virgo – ways of being that are not really who you are
Libra – how you relate to the cosmos (you can’t ignore it anymore)
Scorpio – how you interact with groups, and which groups you affiliate with
Sagittarius – how you go after your goals and relate to authority
Capricorn – old philosophies and goals that no longer suit where you’re heading
Aquarius – your relationship to money, especially other people’s money
Pisces – old relationship patterns, and old relationships that you’ve outgrown

Mercury in Aries speeds the process along, especially with the boost it receives from Awakener Uranus. Key dates in the process are March 3, 5, 12, 21, 24–29, and April 4, 10, and 13. This is a time to be used, not waited out. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that retrogrades prevent action. They often require it (but not necessarily in the direction we want to go). Listen within, let the energy flow, and enjoy the ride!

Mars is still retrograde and provides a backdrop for Mercury’s retrograde. Get the report (includes insights for your sign).

. . . and keep the energy flowing.

Mercury turned retrograde today (March 12, 2012) at 0:49 PT. As I listen within, I am thrilled to find his voice ringing out with as much clarity as usual during a retrograde. It is in Aries, and it leads me to recall the first time that I discovered the positive side of Mercury’s retrograde, when it was in Aries a round or two ago. During that retrograde, I discovered Marion Zimmer Bradley’s Mists of Avalon and entered a land of enchantment, a whole new magickal world as I devoured the book, reading on into the silence of late night. I thank Mercury for the whispers that guided me through this opening.

Each retrograde is different, offering a unique set of gifts shaped by the contacts Mercury makes during its sojourn in reverse. I have learned to cherish them all, as they give me the chance to improve my circumstances and attunement in some specifically focused way each time. The voice of this Messenger is louder, sometimes more demanding, but always helpful.

Mercury Keeps Us in Touch With What’s Real.
We can think of Mercury as the Sumerians did — as Ninshubur, the fly (or mosquito) who helped Inanna in her journey through the Underworld. He whispered in her ear, reminding her of who she really was as she was stripped of all her riches and external forms of identity. After she had her encounter with death in the Underworld, being stripped of her flesh, he helped her find her way back to the surface and the healing light.

Mercury whispers to us all the time, but during his retrograde he gets a megaphone. If there are critical factors long ignored, we may find him shouting through the conditions of life — a car in need of repair, a communication of reconciliation, a new perspective. Each retrograde brings something different — a revelation, a new course of study, a process of learning something we never knew before.

Saturn and Uranus Characterize Our Process.
What we experience in this retrograde is shaped by Saturn and Uranus, the major contacts that Mercury makes now. We’ll be focused more on Uranus’s pattern, because it is a powerful conjunction that connects in part to an intensifying pattern, Uranus’s square to Pluto which occurs seven times over the next three years, the first of them June 24. The changes in society and economy, the challenges we face in transitioning away from unsustainable uses of Planet Earth — these are tied to the Uranus-Pluto contact.

As Mercury makes its three connections to Uranus, he says, “It’s time to be who you are. You alone are the one who can make those choices. It is time to separate from confining masks and roles that we have taken on for the benefit of others.” This is not about being selfish (although others may tell you that you are), but about finding the deep place within that we call Self, so that we can contribute from the place. This is the place from which our unique gift, our divine purpose, emanates.

Saturn provides a context for all this, the new way that we’re forming relationships and the new relationships we’re forming because of how we’ve grown. There isn’t much push here, but if we dig beneath the surface, we’ll find the promise of love motivating our actions.

Time for New Rules!
When a planet stations (stands still from Earth’s perspective) to go retrograde, it opens a joint or juncture in time. This also happens when two planets reach the same harmonic (make a connection to each other). With Mercury stationing while still in contact with Uranus, there are two factors making that juncture available. When such a juncture occurs, we have the opportunity to change the structures that surround us. We can set new intentions, rules, and habits; plant the seeds for new projects or bring them further into form.

Before we can do that, we must have the right perspective, and that involves clearing away old ways of seeing things that no longer work for us. It may be painful to strip away what no longer serves us, but it opens us to the new. This Mercury retrograde tunes us in to our process of  letting go. For some, it will be a first encounter with the need to change by releasing the past. For others, it will be familiar turf, a final clean-up before moving ahead; and some will be ready to forge the new path.

You Are Exactly Where You Need to Be.
We are each exactly where we need to be. We don’t need to feel anxious because we see someone else who seems “ahead” of us, or because we’re not where we want to be. We each have our own interface with the universe and responding to the flow in perfect timing for us, and there is a way through. Being at peace with wherever we are enables us to grow without getting in our own way.

Mercury’s points of contact with Uranus are strongest March 2–22 and April 16–26, with peaks on March 5, 11–12, and 18; and April 22–26. To find the story line that matches this process in your life, look at what happened on/around these dates as they unfold, and look back at early November for a pre-event.

. . . and keep the energy flowing.

In mid-March (the 5th–16th), we have the culmination of the Earth Grand Trine that started to form last June when Jupiter entered Taurus. With Pluto already in Capricorn and other planets sporadically passing through Virgo (at first just the Moon, then Sun-Mercury-Venus in August and September), we have had a feeling of stability coming from some set of circumstances, a release space for the tension we’ve had elsewhere.

A Grand Trine works with the third harmonic, a vibration of creativity. When the triangle is complete, it creates a space, a field of development that we can use. It establishes a place for energy to collect, a yin process. In Westernized culture — which currently predominates on the planet — yin is undervalued and under-used in the effort toward quick results. However, true strength is built partially on yin force. We cannot be in the center, the source of creativity, without a balance of yin and yang; sooner or later a state of imbalance is corrected or equalized, and the general state of being over-yang on Planet Earth is currently being equalized in its slow inevitable way. The Earth Grand Trine gives us a graceful way of introducing it into our own field of dreams, where we can use it to create our future.

I have likened it to a Sacred Garden, because the process of cultivating yin is like growing a garden or watching a child grow. Growth proceeds step by step rather than in one swift quantum change. It is often imperceptible or hidden, created by tending to the least little thing. In Western culture, we may be taught to disregard the small as trivial or unimportant, but to the balanced mind this is recipe for instability. A foundation is laid brick by brick, carefully fitted together, before another layer is added. This can take some time.

Patience Is a Tool of Creativity.
We are rarely taught of the rewards that come through patience, through something slowly and carefully developed. And yet we see these processes around us all the time; we are just led to resist them or to think there’s something wrong if something takes “too long”. We have never been more likely to think that this is the case than in the last few years, as fear about the future creates a sense of urgency to resolve everything now, before disaster strikes. Nothing could be further from the truth. In times of rapid change, we are usually better off making small, persistent steps, those which come from clarity about the circumstances of the moment. Here are some realities about the world of yin and how we can tap them:

  • Yin is a primal power, equal in strength to Yang, complementary and interpenetrating.
  • Yin is the field or opening that receives the seed of Yang.
  • Yin’s power to accept and give things form is unlimited.
  • Through Yin, we gain the power the give things form. If you’re having trouble manifesting, you are probably out of balance toward Yang, with underdeveloped Yin.
  • If you have too little yin in your life, be more receptive. Yield sincerely to each thing that comes to you, nourishing it (or redirecting it if it is out of balance).
  • Yin uses the instrument of time for its development.
  • Yin works through the collection, concentration, storage, and organization of energy.
  • During a time of yin development, accept the slow pace, but keep your sense of purpose. If you try to rush things, it will take longer because it throws Yin out of balance when we rush.
  • Do whatever presents itself to be done without judging it.
  • Test your ideas.
  • Let go of the past, but don’t shirk responsibilities.
  • Be calm and confident. Don’t take the lead — allow yourself to be led. This releases transformative energy.
  • Accept that some processes and energies are hidden and should remain that way until they emerge on their own.

Yin is the energy of the Earth Grand Trine, especially because it is the energy of Earth and its signs, Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. We have peak access to these energies March 5–16, but they will stay with us for the next 9 years in some form, as the Jupiter-Pluto cycle that this participates in fulfills itself.

Because this is Yin, don’t expect a Big Change to rescue you from your dilemmas; do expect that by collecting Yin energy you will overcome the obstacles that you have been dealing with. If you do the work patiently and calmly, you will be able to grow everything you want in your Sacred Garden.

. . . and keep the energy flowing.

We enter February under a cloud of confusion. What does the future hold? Who will travel the road with us? What is the next hill to climb? Meanwhile at least one thing in our life is on hold while something unexpected is in development. We may be disappointed in what isn’t happening, but at least there’s something that is moving ahead, and it provides a distraction from what isn’t in motion.

While the Sun is in Aquarius, we get a break: from our emotions, from the sturm and drang of what challenges us most. It gives us a chance to develop an objective viewpoint, to disentangle ourselves from emotions we didn’t know we had. We can let go of fear and uncover the joy that can’t come out while fear is present.

We now know these things, and for those who don’t know the planetary rhythms, what isn’t arriving may seem unendurably hopeless. But for we who know that all things change with the cycles of time, we experience a constructive interlude. All this is happening as we enter two new planetary playgrounds being brought by Mars’s and Saturn’s retrogrades.

Mars commenced his retrograde on January 23, at the time of the New Moon. Saturn’s begins on February 7, infusing the Full Moon with its vibration. What is curious about this timing is that both these planets place higher emphasis on individuation, the process by which we differentiate ourselves from the people and things around us. And they come to us during the time when Aquarius is the dominant sign, the quintessential sign of individuation in balance with group affiliation.

So how do we take advantage of this opportunity to grow, and what will come of it? In the context of our current shift in consciousness, we find it necessary to let go of situations from the past. Yet, we may find that some of them linger on in our lives. Now is a good time to let go of another layer of not-self, masked behavior, and the situations that go with them.

Most of the time, we will craft new ways of behaving and engaging with life, and the parts that don’t fit will sort themselves out. However, now we have a golden opportunity to see this process with exceptional clarity and to say no to what belongs in the past. Often, Mars and Saturn are about saying no to what we don’t want. Often, all the things we don’t want clutter our lives so much that they block our view of what we do want — we don’t even know. Saying no to even a few circumstances, behaviors, people, or inner attitudes loosens up our head for new ideas and people to pop through, like hitting the refresh button.

Mars is retrograde for almost three months (through April 13), and Saturn is retrograde for about five months, until June 25. Each provides a platform for growth. Mars emphasizes self-development and finding balance in asserting ourselves with others. Saturn emphasizes responsibility and building the structures we need to sustain ourselves in the world. Each of them is about setting boundaries, whether physical, psychological, or spiritual. There is no doubt that we will feel their energies in the foreground during this time.

Mars is also felt through how, why, and where we go after what we want. It ties to relationships through courtship ritual, love-making/sexual interaction, and physical activity of all sorts. In our psyche it is often expressed as anger, irritation, aggressiveness, although we find it as well in how we assert ourselves and hold our space with others. Some people will feel an abundance of energy available, while others will feel more drained than usual.

Saturn is the long path we take toward stability as we interact and find ways to take care of ourselves in the world beyond our aura — work, bill-paying, eating, sleeping — all the trappings of living in a physical body. It emphasizes separation and philosophically is associated with the process of forgetting our unity with all consciousness.

Just Say No — For Starters.
When we experience an emphasized Mars or Saturn, we usually notice. Mars often comes to us in the form of anger, irritability, impatience; Saturn is most noted for a “down draft” in our energy field, a feeling of heaviness. These feelings are neither inevitable nor permanent, and when they occur they indicate that we have old, dead energies in our energy field that don’t have to be there, can be released. Saying no to what we don’t want is an effective and satisfying way of doing that.

The process of saying no invites us to say yes to what replaces the old energy, a natural part of the sequence by which we can transform ourselves. The yeses may not come right away, and the manifestation of changes as a result may take time, patience, faith, and trust in the process in order to complete them. The hard part is the time in between, when we have neither the old energies to comfort us with familiarity nor the new energies to prove to ourselves and others that we’re on the right track. It takes time to shift our energy field into a new vibration, and the bigger the shift the longer it can take as we systematically remove all that obstructs our path in that direction.

Our Current Quantum Shift Provides the Context.
That’s where we are now as a species and as a planet, forced by survival needs into making a quantum shift. When we add our own personal challenges, it may seem like more than we can take. Yet somehow we come through. Mars retrograde emphasizes the urge to act and gets us to examine our impulses. It also gives us a time-out from the forward motion of things, and after it is over, we will see what good it has done for us — just right now we’re probably not appreciating the apparent delays, frustrations, impetuous acts from ourselves and others, etc.

With Saturn, there is also a feeling of being held back but there’s a constructive process taking place as well. With Saturn in Libra, this is happening in our relationships in some arena or another: They must deepen or die (or be allowed to end because they were already dead). Saturn’s retrograde begins at the last degree of Libra, giving the psychic impression that we had to take care of it all now, but we actually get until October 5 to complete the task. We just can’t let an undermining relationship keep us from fulfilling our path and making the most of the challenges we face outside our front door. It feels like survival.

Individuation Meets Manifestation.
So with this scenario, we are primed perfectly to accomplish a big transformation — the “2012” one that will occur over the next six years — in a number of small steps. We already completed a number of them last year, even if we weren’t aware of them. Now we get the Mars retrograde to do final earthbound preparations, after doing mostly internalized work to this point. The internal work will never stop as long as we’re alive, especially now, but the role we’re going to take, the shape of our future, will become clearer with each day, because the energies of manifestation are at work through the planets in the Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn). For more on how to use the Mars retrograde process, with specific info for your sign, get the report.

Neptune Re-Enters Pisces: The Final Portal to Tomorrow
Neptune enters the ethers of Pisces on the 3rd, where stillness and unity, image and mythic reality rule. Energies that move in swirls and spirals are more emphasized than the laser-like (curved) linearity of Aquarius. Healing comes from that stillness, as we write our own mythic reality, each a unique expression of the Creative/Universal Spark.

Neptune remains in Pisces (and each sign) for about 14 years. It is helpful now to take some time to look back at the transit of Neptune through Aquarius, which started in 1998. Wherever you felt it in your life, it asks us to dedicate ourselves to something beyond our personal gain, to make a sacrifice and then surrender to the process that ensues. We can feel remarkably unsure about the path we’ve chosen as we encounter the obstacles that ensue as we work to manifest our vision. What did you take on in 1998? This will give you an idea of the flavor of Neptune in your life. What is your new vision?

Neptune’s new yearly cycle begins on the 19th when the Sun catches it at 0̊36′ Pisces, a degree that participates in last year’s transformation. Its significant range of motion this year is 0̊22′ – 3̊09′ Pisces. If you have placements in Pisces, Virgo, Gemini, or Sagittarius in this range, you will feel Neptune’s energies with more poignancy in the coming year. Key dates are February 19, May 23, June 4, August 24, November 10 and 21.

This is the final of the outer planets to change signs in a remarkable series of shifts that have occurred in a very short time (four years), with planets that stay in a sign as long as 16 years in their current pattern. This phenomenon is as much a part of the feeling we have of being thrust into the future as anything else out there right now. It moves us firmly in the direction of the new. Whatever you took on in 1998, you’re done with that now!

And in Our Ongoing Relationship Saga . . .
The Mars and Saturn retrogrades will have a direct impact on our relationship life. Both planets take us into a process of recovering gems we lost on the way to creating the bonds we are building now. It’s as if we didn’t see them glimmer in the sands when we went by the first time, due to distraction or distortion of our perceptions. Now we get to sift the sands again and see the events we’ve already experienced with new eyes, as if for the first time. We have the chance to recover the warmth that we felt before the learning process started that brings us into mutual harmony, a year or two ago.

On the 1st we have a challenge in Venus’s opposition to Mars, that of fuller awareness of what’s real, and really important, to us. Whatever happened on January 31 – February 2, it was as if the universe was bringing the “feeling truth” to us. This new understanding gives us a direction with the remainder of the Mars retrograde.

We have more in store: This year is a time to “get it right” (= in harmony), as Venus also has a retrograde in late spring to help us iron things out. Gemini is the featured sign for this event. The combination of factors gives us a series of openings via which we can take small steps that bring gradual progress. This is the way to circumvent the huge emotions that often surface as we simultaneously bring a relationship into our lives and deal with the emotional blocks to it that we’ve been carrying from childhood and past lives.

The 2012 Transformation
We’ve had a break from the deeper issues surrounding us January 28 – February 8. They’ve been there, but we haven’t had to deal with them directly, except as part of an ongoing process of change with known factors. This change son the 9th when Venus enters Aries, one of the signs in the Cardinal Cross (with Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) that are featured in the changes. This opens the door to making more adjustments in our connections with others. For the next three months, our relationships will stimulate the processes of transformation. Surprises are afoot.

Let the Healing Begin (Again)!
Chiron gives us a boost of healing energy this month as the Sun hits the refresh button on its yearly cycle at 5̊09′ Pisces. Until the 24th, the old cycle is ending with all the attendant rush to complete what has been left unsaid, undone to clear our energy field. In Pisces, it is all about the unseen world, and it has acquainted us with this reality in two steps to warm the waters for Neptune’s final advent into this sign of the great oceanic consciousness that we all swim in.

Chiron played with Mars at critical points in its 2011 cycle, and now we speed toward the culmination of the processes triggered last year. If you have “leftovers” from last year (especially in relationship or health/injury/illness), chances are good it ties into this interaction in some way. With Chiron in Pisces, our healing process cannot be complete if we ignore the role of the spirit in the healing. Our woundedness is welling up from the deepest levels of beingness now, more likely tied to past lives and early in this lifetime than to current experiences, which only act as the trigger to bring these to the surface.  It is a good process. Without it, we will continue to carry burdens that we are scarcely aware of, so adapted are we to the habitual distortions they create in our daily experience. Freed of these burdens, we feel like we’ve just gotten a new pair of glasses on the world that appears brighter and more colorful. The sky is a deeper, limitless blue.

Shooing the old energies from our field is rocket-boosted along by a connection with Jupiter, the third of three, on the 14th at 4̊32′ Pisces/Taurus. The first two contacts were on July 2 (5̊13′ Pisces/Taurus) and December 6 (0̊59′ Pisces/Taurus). These times were potentiated by eclipses and planetary stations, so resolutions that occur now are multi-layered and complex.

Mutability Rules.
On the 18th, the Sun enters Pisces to bring out the Mutable energies again (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces). From that date through the end of the month, every significant planetary interaction involves one or more of these signs. (See Chart B.) We get a chance to really work through the situations that began to take shape in early November. This is an opening, a doorway, but it is not the only one; this tells us that there are many stages to developing the situations we find ourselves in now, and that a missed opportunity will return if we do not find it part of the flow to act now. There is a higher pitch of volatility in our circumstances now, by grace of the intensity of the planetary in-flows to Earth. At such times, small steps bringing gradual progress prevent overreactions due to moving too quickly.

The Mutable energies rely on flexibility to achieve their goals. They move around objects and obstacles, wait things out, and focus on wholeness and completions. They are the signs that “put out fires”, dealing with existing circumstances rather than starting new ones. Their first response is often to agree or avoid, even though they will not stay in this position. In fact, the Mutables do not hold positions, or hold onto things — sometimes giving up before fruition is achieved. To use the Mutable energy well, we need to stay in touch with what’s in our heart, and often stay with something longer than we think is wise.

It’s Time to Ground.
The energies of the Earth Grand Trine (Chart A) are coming together again, giving us the precious gift of being able to add form and abundance to our life. This is a process that began last June and comes to us in multiple steps and stages. This stepwise process is the way through the quantum leap in consciousness that we are embarked upon now. If you are alive now, you are meant to be here and experience this. There is a way through with more joy and miraculous experience than you can now see, but your imagination can take you there.

You will be amazed. ♥
